"A small lakeside town in upstate New York is fed up with Bitcoin miners using up so much of its low-cost electricity."

"For a year and a half, the almost 20,000-resident city will not consider new applications for commercial cryptocurrency mining. "

Jesus Christ boysss, sell your coinz now!

I agree it is one small town but others may follow.

Did not read your links but by the comments I think it is the story about the town in NY !?
Well they got most their electricity through a dam and thus it was so cheap and worked because they obviously have a small population. Ultimately no town/city that just has regular utilities will ban this as they actually make money of it, so I'd say isolated case here really. They also did n ot set a day yet for the 18 month restriction and fines of $1k a day for anybody still running it, but also said they will look into how to address this issue with the "mining companies"...

You couldn't have picked three worse articles.

The first one I can't read with adblock.

The mining one is literally irrelevant. Some small NY town said they won't grant permission for new BTC mines.

The ones that matter are in places where the electricity use is welcomed. Iceland etc. They are already established and, frankly, a $1k/day fine would not make a dent.

The third article has to be the worst.

"According to a recent report, illicit activity that is typically associated with bitcoin is on the decline"

Two months ago it was "BTC will fail because criminals use it" now it's "BTC will fail because Criminals use monero".

The report they talk about is stupid. No facts. Plucking numbers out of their ass.

He's been "trading" bitcoin for six month, you don't pull your shitty Bloomberg articles on master "tradesmen".

that would be funny, a lot of broken dreams from /r/CryptoCurrency/

The strange thing is, the "traders" on BHW dismiss any and all negative articles on BTC out-right and only promote the positive ones, whereas the real successful traders I know, look at and consider all the news & speculation from the financial press and elsewhere when making their decisions.

It is obvious that they will not spread negative news as it affects prices but will invest accordingly to remain profitable or cut losses.

Sort of a serious question here.

I can get solar installed that will handle all the electricity in my house for about 30K - about 19K if I bought the products and was involved in the installation.

Let's suppose I don't use it to run the A/C, refrigerator, etc and use it to mine.

Would that make economic sense?
