"Blockchain Asset" Versus "Cryptocurrency"

Has anyone here tried to sync a full Ethereum node? It used to take days to sync, now it takes weeks.

I don't know where the blockchain is going but surely there must be improvements for it to become a truly worldwide distributed computer.
This is what makes scaling so hard and why it has become the #1 challenge in crypto today.
Aren't there some new ICOs that are much more scalable than ETH?
I forgot their name(s) but they have much simpler cryptographic functions (less CPU intensive), but still remain quite secure to some degree.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe almost all of these nodes/miners are using software to generate/sign hashes. The performance could be drastically improved by using/developing hardware specifically designed for a specific hashing algorithm -- but to make this a reality one needs to partner up with a company like Intel/AMD/IBM/Texas Instruments/etc.
Everyone is trying to solve the scaling issue and in various ways. Some of the proposed solutions are on chain and some of them are L2 solutions, which are external and built on top of the blockchain. BTC has lightning network which is currently in trial and is an L2 solution. ETH has several proposed solutions, one of which is sharding, which is meant to add to the main blockchain a lot of smaller, "local" blockchains, like a hierarchical tree of blockchains. Others are trying to develop brand new solutions, such as EOS. Another approach, such as Graft, for instance, involves hybrid blockchains, with multiple consensus approaches, such as hybrid Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Stake.

The first one to crack this in a secure, reliable way and with a good UX, could go on to dominate crypto. Currently, my money is on Lightining Network - I think in the long-run it will allow BTC to hold onto its dominant position.
Intresting. "As far as i know" just curious what's the source of this knowledge?

Are there no concerns on the Ethereum hitting it's limits? Cryptokitties make Ethereum blockchain useless and competition is coming(EOS, NEO). Or are scaling solutions behind the corner?
Alright guys I'm gonna throw out a bone, not because im the master but because i know someone who has been in the game a long time. They can read the consesus algorithms and really understand the tech behind this crypto stuff. They do NOT NOT NOT hype shit ever. First time I have heard them really get excited.

ORBS(Might be ICO in future, but most is pre-ICO)
Algorand(no ICO that I know of, not sure how to get it)

These are special kind of blockchains. Imagine a platform like ethereum. Now, I have talked about Waltonchain's tech, called child chains. Being able to build a chain off another chain whenever you need to, meaning theoretically it will never have a clogged up network. ORBS and Algorand are a mix of these, but whats special is they also run with DAG. Yep you heard it here first. A platform like ethereum, that will never get clogged up, and has infinite speed. They are both getting attention from the likes of KIN, because Kin's platform will only be scalable through these types of blockchains, since so many transactions will be occurring.

Do some research if you have the time, I can't believe im actually letting the cat out of the bag. Much like Alan Watts did, lol.
It's a make or break situation for many of these cryptos, it's a race against time who can develop the first real product on the blockchain/DAG. The developers know this very well and when the first batch of real products/cryptos are complete we will see them cement their price and suck the life out of vaporware projects. These are extremely exciting, volatile times, and we should all feel grateful to play a part in this revolution.

As far as I know, quite a lot of hedge fund asset managers are ready to move into crypto, with many of them moving their entire positions into Ethereum. However, right now there is a slight reluctance and they will accumulate slowly since quite a large percent of holdings is held by unknown early young investors. This puts major organisations and financial institutions at a risk, knowing that early bitcoin adopters hold large amounts of Ethereum (and had the foresight to hide there holdings) and thus banks are spending massive amounts doing analysis and research to find out who these people are and how much they hold.

I'm going to link you to a World Economic Forum extensive report done by huge titans (CEOs, CTOs, Presidents, Managing Directors) of multi billion dollar institutions, it's definitely worth the read if you're interested in the future of cryptocurrencies: http://www3.weforum.org/docs/WEF_The_future__of_financial_services.pdf
Just so you know, no links to outside forums, might wanna have a mod change that...

Im pretty optimistic about what governments think of crypto currently. I think we can only benefit from an outer research campaign and hopefully some conservative regulations to it. Korea, China, Japan, and now even the US have agreed in some way that crypto will be extremely beneficial one day, and that ITS WORTH continuing development.

The best part of crypto will be when these shit projects fade away. Yeah there is always gonna be some stupid idea floating around, but the space in saturated with unstable "companies." I get more excited everyday, wish we were three months away. We will see the fruits soon and I got good vibes coming from it.

If people stopped for a second and learned how bitcoin works and how it has the power to stop the inflation and the crooked banks we would have a better world.
My favorite philosopher is Allan watts too

As much as I understand your sentiment, you are missing the fact that blockchain has progressed. One specific chain is able for the administrator to pick what data they want public and what they want private. Not only that but they are integrating oracles to be able to sell that data discreetly and safely off-chain to other businesses who need it.

And again, there are good arguments for needing coins or not needing coins integrated with the ledger.

But yeah sure, lets get to the moon and then pluto before anything.

You've said you haven't gotten rich off of it. (neither have i). Not sure what is the definition of rich though. I don't think you really need much as long as you can write off lambos and this bullshit that everyone seems to be thriving for. Luxury is the last on the list.

But the mistake i've made was i invested in things i wanted, in things i liked and i expected a nice long term growth. And god damn was i wrong. The level of retardness we have in these markets is unimaginable.

For example i hated Ripple because i thought it doesn't make any sense and many other coins. Yet, they pumped you could make so much money with them, more than anywhere else.
Reasons why Ripple was hyped so much was due to the fact they probaby have(like any other big company) marketing/public relations team that will reach out to the media, be someone media can reach. There is no "ceo" of Bitcoin to do the same thing. They seem like a reputable company, they have partnerships with big banks(you are more likely to recommend something to a friend if it's backed by something reputable, such as biggest banks). On top of that it was "cheap". There we go. Recipe for the biggest pump in the history.

The summary of what was happening this January ( https://www.instagram.com/p/BepK5B7l5be/ )
It's a great video. Explains why "HODL" is fucking stupid(unless you got in very early and are already just chilling) in this overflow of this uber-dumb money. I'm sorry to say but people are fucking naive and retarded, give them a binance account and it's a tragedy waiting to happen.

There were opportunities of a lifetime a couple of months ago when you could've bought early and hodl onto and get such returns you'd be taken care of for life. :( I've been waiting on the sides and bought just a littlle and wanted to accumulate because i expected it to go x10 in a year but then shit started to pump so fast and i was like "too late" and it goes x50 in 3months... Frustrating, depressing... it's hard.

The technology is great and all, but i'm there to make money.
Don't get me wrong,I'm also a fan of the technology, i think it's the best invention in the modern society. It wouldn't have been possible without the internet, but it's much more powerful than the internet. The potential is unimaginable.
Right now the greatest talent on the world is working for biggest tech giants on optimizing technology and finding best ways how to addict people to keep scrolling on their social media platform, how to display the best ads and how to make the most money out of you. You are the product and it's ruining people.

Till now there was no alternative, you'd go where salary was the highest, yet now there is an opportunity where you can actually have a positive impact on the society and also benefit off of it. What if people were working for the benefit of the society?
I don't know if this is sustainable and whether it will actually work, but damn i have high hopes.

I do believe the market will mature at some point, i'm not sure we are there yet. Right now my goal is to make money. I mean fuck you need to free yourself first, then you can work on whatever it is you like.

I don't know what's the best strategy though and there seems to be a very handful of people who are really into this thing. The majority is just trying to find easy pick and get rich, not even knowing what is it all about.
Although even that i think is great, i mean creating value out of nothing and it sure has helped a lot of people and will change the world for the better. Shift of wealth to the new generation as crypto continues to grow and it becomes a mandatory(but small) part of big portfolios. If not for else, than as a uncorrelated asset and a hedge.

Thank you for these tips, will check them out.

Do you have any thoughts on Radix? They seem to be beyond DAG with their own solution they have been working on for the past 6 years ... The team seems competent, the transaction rates per second are crazy, they have a working product. But there will be no ICO and their idea is to keep the price of the token at a stable level (like Tether) but in another way (not backed by anything) - when there is a lot of demand, they release more tokens and holders get a share (so you don't profit from price volatility but from the growing number of tokens you have) but their economic whitepaper is not out yet, so we have to wait for details.
Their Telegram is really nice, people talking about technology and stuff, no lambos there.
I find the project fascinating, although there are some blanks that the team still has to fill in. If anyone has any input on it, I would appreciate it.

will look into it, sounds very different.
