That's the beauty of this puzzling scenario. If you have invested in developing a skill that is in high demand, then you are well insulated from a total loss. Even if the fickle world took everything away, you would still have a skill you could almost instantly turn to cash. You could easily pull yourself up and continue on. That said, not everyone has those types of skills. Using seo tools that take a long time to build up, and relying on third party vendors and service providers can genuinely make a person vulnerable. One of the gifts this scenario offers is the chance to see how vulnerable they really are.

I think the $10k is a red herring in the short term. You only need to make $2 a day from the $200 (assuming prison food isn't very expensive). You probably don't need to touch the $200, but you do need to work to your strengths.

If you've run a successful ISP, what were your roles? You could list your skills on freelancer sites and offer the service. e.g. if you're technical, then Apache + Perl/PHP + PostgreSQL/MySQL or c# + IIS + MS SQL server or whatever. Start off really cheap to get some feedback, then put your prices up. Gain the trust of your clients to get better work at higher rates, from new clients or existing. I've paid guys on oDesk 10x the rate I hired them for.

If you're more about the content and marketing, sell that. Or if you're more about customer support, offer VA services. If it's a 30 day sentence then just earn some money and don't gamble the $200. Whomever you borrowed it from in prison might not be very forgiving of you lose it.

If it's a long sentence, then you need to earn just a bit more than $2 a day, and use the rest for playing. I suggest trying to find some new niche, or a sub-niche, or a sub-sub-niche - something where you can win. Register some domains, build some content, build some links. Once you've put some money aside you could buy a MajesticSEO or AHREFs account. You could pick up expired domains cheaply and as your pot builds up you could buy nicer domains from Sedo. Or if you have had some good clients from your freelance work, switch to performance based work or do a joint venture.

The main thing is that it's spare money, so you don't need to be afraid to lose it. You can play, experiment, learn. By the time you've got to $10,000 you've made your online mistakes and found ways to make more money than you spend. Fortunately these skills will help keep you busy after you're released so you won't have time for crime, so we won't end up having to throw you back in jail.

OP, what you can do with $200 is to go get yourself a VPS with SEO tools (check out cheapseovps - that's what I'm using). Start learning how to use the tools (lots of tutorials here and everywhre) and post some fiverr gigs and pray to god it will work - that's out of the top of my head.

Thing is like this: with $200 you don't have enough to buy all the tools and a VPS. You barely have enough for a VPS with SEO tools preinstalled and a couple of semi-private proxies. Once you have that you need to start learning how to use them PROPERLY.

Trick is that no matter what you do, you won't get the money in the bank the first month...Let's explore your options:
- promote affiliate products - it takes about 1 month to get the money - start in april, get paid in may
- sell fiverr gigs (bulk backlinking) - takes 2 weeks for the funds to clear once your order is completed
- promote your own products - if you have them, set up an e-junkie account and that's how you'll get money fast, but you need to spam the hell out of the web, and for that you need shitloads of good proxies and to know how to use the tools properly, which means both time and money you don't have
- start selling SEO services on Freelancer.com, Odesk, elance, etc - might get you some quick cash, but it all depends on how you play your cards; the same for your writing services

That's pretty much it out of the top of my head. However, as you see, it takes more than a month to make a profit. Of course, as I said, unless you have your own product or go to work as a freelance writer (for which you don't need to spend any of the $200 or a SEO guy - for which you willl need the vps with preloaded seo tools and proxies). Other than that, I really don't know. I wish you the best of luck and I'll be happy to hear that you succeeded.

So you want to get started with $200? Get yourself a website, a hosting account, a PPD account, a good niche that is relatively easy to rank, a basic seo package and scale things up with time.

Interesting posts this morning. I appreciate the offer to help with advice. I'm in the forums to try and keep my knowledge current. I just thought this would be a very interesting topic to talk about. I'm not actually looking for a job. You are all awesome and innovative.
