I am trying to get some statistics how many user using black background or gray background default colors on BHW. As it would help us to understand which font color is going to be suitable for both color schemes.

The black is too hard to view most threads due to people using stupid font colour choices, so it's gray for me.

OP, this question has been asked previously and I think 95% of users have BHW set to the default colour scheme.
As you will be optimizing for all themes/colour schemes don't forget about the mobile one too.

Gray here, but it sucks in some parts of the site where the skin is not gray - like profile.
