So I have a server at home I use to code stupid stuff with. Nothing major. Was wondering if I could program the server to mine for bitcoins. Or join it to a pool that’s win server based.
Sounds like a pit. Not worth the effort then. What other coins types do you suggest? The mining difficulty is so hard now I don’t think it would be worth while - even 5+ years ago when I was mining BTC on my pc the electricity cost more than the reward.
There might be other coins that are worth mining, I don’t know.
Heavy hardware? You can mine on cell phones. To see any real money, you could invest in a bunch of antminers, but really if you're doing it on a smaller scale.. all you need are good GPUs.Is that mining still works, especially in small scale ?
Bitcoin difficulty has increased significantly and you need some heavy hardware to mine.
Thanks again! I’ll start my research now.Heavy hardware? You can mine on cell phones. To see any real money, you could invest in a bunch of antminers, but really if you're doing it on a smaller scale.. all you need are good GPUs.
What script are you using? With the server your power usage would be more than you are mining each month. You could mine some other coins that are easier to mine but the value right now for those are next to none. So that would have to be a play that that going would take off. I keep a few servers that are not in use mining some newer coin for the far off chance they take off.
If you can manage to get around the electricity issue, because it does soak up a tremendous amount of power as someone was mentioning above, then I would go for it. But I you're paying the bill yourself, then steer clear of btc.. there are some alt coins that you can make a small profit on with mining despite the electricity.. I have a buddy that does it. I just don't have a work around for the electricity, so I haven't invested in it. Good luck though, and keep us updated on your progress. I always find it enjoying to read about someone who started off mining onot their family pc, and 5 years later they have their whole basement decked out with 200 miners, crazy electric set up and a huge ass exhaust running up three the living room, outside to keep the machines cool. Thanks again! I’ll start my research now.
How big of a spike are you talking in the Kilowatt hour? What do you think the server I have on hand will pull down in kwh? Below I have included a PNG of the Specs of my server. Please let me know.
