Best way to begin a Blog

I am a very new person to the online stream. I just took my first step by creating a blog for myself. I have uploaded about 5 blog posts so far and I'm planning to do affiliate marketing with it. So far I concern more about the content and I started it with Blogger. Some have suggested that it's better to start with my own domain, while there were many posts which i read which says that blogger is much more helpful and supportive when it comes to SEO. What do you guys think and your opinions are most welcome. Thank you!

Pretty much everyone on BHW will tell you to use your own domain. Can't imagine where you would have seen posts that favour Blogger over having your own domain. If you build a successful site on Blogger, you still don't own it, so you can't sell it. With your own domain, you can earn through affiliate marketing, build up the value of the site, then sell it for a tidy profit.

The good thing is that you have reached out to the BHW community after just 5 posts on Blogger. Get some hosting and re-write your blog posts to make them unique, and get started on your own site. Best of luck to you
 
even blogger you could have your own domain but I would recommend go with your own hosting as well
 
You should get your own domain and opt for self hosting. You will have more features and get a better website.

They are all right... If you can afford it get your own domain.

Get a cheap shared hosting. I recommend hawk host .. Like 3.75 per month. (If you can afford it get wpxhosting but it's like 40/month)

Set up cloud fare as your .cdn .. If you with a good host this is very easy.

Use an ssl .... Most host make this very easy. It's automatic with hawk host.

Even if you start a project and leave it there may be value you can capture later if it's your own domain (and you keep paying for it)
 
Build your blog around EXISTING COMMUNITIES

By making sure there's A LARGE and VOCAL DEMAND for your content, you increase your chances of actually making money

Where are the existing communities for your sub-niche?

Can you join these and 'hang out' and become an AUTHORITATIVE and RESPECTED member of the community?

Obviously, you need your own DOMAIN and HOSTING. After all, you're building a BRAND.
 
Figure out a niche beforehand. Plan out the site and do the keyword research, so you write content on pre-determined topics/keywords. Once you have at least 20k words - start building backlinks and dishing out regular content.

Too late, I already started researching it! I'm ready for my life to be ruined.

I haven't seen anyone recommend Wordpress for the blog. There are tons of free themes and plugins that will make your blog POP
 
Everyone here has done an amazing job with the advice.
As always, spend a few bucks on your own domain.

Blogger isn't a good option, even if you make 100's of posts you shouldn't expect to make significant sales.

Must people when they found that blogger is owned by Google, they believe they'll be favored in google ranking, about 7 years ago that's what i thought.

Forget about ranking a blogspot on top 5 searches, if your blogspot is designed solely for the purpose of promoting affiliate products, your blog will be deleted fast.

Learn how to host wordpress on your private host, it's damn easy, every hosting provider i know offer one click wordpress install, so there is no technicalities involved.

After installing your wordpress you then head over to Youtube and watch a lot of videos regarding wordpress SEO and how rank blog posts in general, especially when it comes to selecting and using keywords.

And most importantly add very useful content to readers on your blog, when you do this even without backlinks you'll start receiving some traffic that could earn you some affiliate commissions as a beginner.
 
As others have said get your own hosting and domain. A hosted domain will rank better and have more trust than a web 2.0 blog.

While you can rank web 2.0 it is going to be a lot harder. But the biggest concern is the hard work and content could be gone in a flash. If blogger shuts down or the feel you violated TOS, your gone and out of business. With a hosted domain, you own it and it is a lot safer. Also will rank better.
 
Focus on the quality of the content and buy your own domain, it is always a good option.

Might as well use medium for their partner program rather than blogger, way more reach. Or just your own domain.

So, we should generate at least 5 000 words of unique content in few ms, do you think it also will be easy to rank ?
Also I heard that after enabling the https and setup the sitemap - spot #1 in Google is only the one possible option. What you think about ?

Your own domain is better in terms that it will give you more control. Blogspot is good for learning only.
