Try to use cdn for media files like images/videos. compress css/js files with pugins. Minimize unnecessarsy plugin usages etc.
 
Want real speed? Cut requests, lighten images, and use caching. Good hosting matters. Get it right and your site flies.

I was just curious about that because I have a lot of "inline scripts" on my pages and I didn't put them in separate files (lazyness i guess + the fact that you can add PHP variables in it, even if it's surely a bad practice).

I know you can then add "async" and / or "defer" on them when they are in separate files, so I guess the performances are better if you put js outside your main page.

The biggest win for page speed is just keeping things light like optimizing images and not loading stuff you don’t really need. In my experience, heavy images and too many scripts slow things down the most. I usually check things with Lighthouse, and sometimes Page Speed Insights just to get a second opinion. It is not perfect, but it gives a good starting point.
 
For me, the biggest difference comes from image optimization and solid hosting. Heavy images slow everything down, so fixing that helps a lot.
