The problem with wordpress is that it had more than 20k plugins a newbie cannot decide himself which plugins should be used and they get confused.Also most of us install 50 plugins or more unnecessarily So here's a list of plugins best recommended.

you missed All in seo, wp security, wp cache plugins which are repute for long in the market.

 

What about Yoast, I'm sure that is a really good plugin, anyway thanks for these other tips, I'll give them a try.

for security i use Wordfence

 

I highly recommend getting a premium WordFence Security annual license. The country blocking, cell phone authentication, and live traffic view alone make them worth it...

I've actually run home while hanging out at night because WordFence alerted me to someone successfully breaking into my WP site via SQL injections.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Its not the basic plugin, but WP Image grabbing plugin works the best for making SEO-friendly photo galleries. It grabs the images according to your keywords and post them in wordpress posts. Hope this helps.
