Would it be considered black hat techniques though? Don't want to hurt my site following these steps.
 
Your idea is great and excellent but you work your website with SEO friendly then it's work more and faster ranking in Google

Don't forget the main SEO sins, that Google hates:
Buying links; Joining the wrong link directories; Article marketing; Keyword stuffing and Unnatural anchor text.
 
Nice post, I personally like the one where you noted to continue building backlinks because some company stop building links once they are on top. SEO is a continuous process one must continue maintaining their website and continue building links because some links fall and this will greatly affect your website.
 
Thanks for the info. I noticed that you mentioned structured links 3 times, and all three times you said if they are "done right". What is done right? What is done wrong? Can you point me to info on this?

Great one for starters with all required basic seo points..
It is true that no one Knows how exactly the Google algorithm behaves but one can predict the behavior to some extent by studying the strategies that are being applied to top sites in a given niche...
For example if a webmaster wants to start a website on "HCG injections" he can do few more things that can help his purpose.

1) he can see if there are any young websites in top 10 results of google for keywords like HCG or HCG injections or HCG pills . ( Seo quake will help to know the age)

2) if there are any young websites in top 10, with the help of tools like sem rush and ahrefs one can easily study the link building strategy being used.

3) Along with all the basics mentioned in the post made by greywolf, adding such strategies to the proceedings would help the website rank quickly* this kind of ranking is always temporary :(

For long term results the key is always long hard work :P

Missed point : good to buy a domain with primary keyword in it

About keywords: It is rather good to use URL and natural long tail keywords( including primary keyword in long tail keywords) in the anchor texts more than direct keyword is always a safe bet.

2)Search Engine Submission
3)Directory Submission
4)Bookmarking
