Hi,

When i check competitors backlinks on Ahrefs, i notice that many sites have more than 200 000 backlinks,

So if i am to compete and outrank this site, does it mean i need the same or similar number of links?

that are total number of links. some domains give you tons of links with just a single submission. many business directories also do this. just go through all the links. you will find thousands of links from same domain. means if you also create one link on that site you will end-up getting that big number of links.

you should check the number of unique domains instead of total number of backlinks.

Checking Referring Domains.

I would check the refering domains instead of the total backlinks. Then i will build better quality backlinks.
