Backlinks from a 404 Not Found Page?

Hi Everyone,

My competitor recently got 445 backlinks from a webpage that says "404 Not Found | nginx/1.4.4" when I visit it. It looks like it may have been an Asian directory.

I'm curious to know if the links will remain on his profile (SEM Rush/other link checkers) or if they will disappear after Google crawls the webpage at some point and sees that it doesn't exist.

If this question is dumb, please forgive me. I'm fairly new to linkbuilding etc.

What if that page is only visible to search engine bots and not to human visitors ?

Well I cant suggest a lot unless I see what kind of link it is but 404 means clear...
Google bots are very smart it can figure out cloaking or anything full black hat method easy specially if the niche is really good...if it is low competition then might not care

I guess it'll be okay to post since it's potentially broken anyway. The competition is low and the link is: nob8.cn

Yeah unless you are trying rank for baidu ...i dont think you need to worry about BL like that

Thank you so much! This competitor confuses me. I don't know if he manually link builds or if they pop up spontaneously based on other sites linking to him.

Do you think the links themselves will disappear? I was finally catching him up on semrush in terms of backlinks.

Yo no one knows what happens behind those 404 pages when Google bot visits

Quite a few BH techniques even today work like a harm.

Quality > Quantity. 404s will eventually disappear.

If this is the case he could try http://web-sniffer.net/ Select web-sniffer or googlebot and see what will show up.
