Backlink or Content: What Wins in 2025?

Content is utterly useless in 2025. So backlinks, obviously (from a BH position).
Obviously, anyone asking this cannot produce unique killer quality content, this is why I'm removing content from the equation. You cannot "purchase" content anymore as you could in 2019.

they're both important, and many times one won't work without the other.
If you don't want to, or can't build links you're going to rank for a little while and then the link builders will outrank you with their backlinks, so you are forced to build links too at that point...
And if you don't have good content your users will not find your site valuable, which will be signaled to google and google will de-rank your site.
So yeah, you (still) need both...

It's more about how backlink and content work together. A single epic guide without any backlinks won't outrank the good guide with a few high-quality links. So, content without links rarely ranks, links without quality content don't stick. You need combo.

Seo success hinges on a content first strategy. Create content that is inherently link worthy and useful. Then, layer in high quality backlinks that reinforce your authority not drive your entire strategy.

Content and backlinks both are important for ranking. You can't rely on only one. even if you do you can't stay your position in the serp for long because your competitor might outrank you with quality links.

In 2025, SEO isn't just about choosing between backlinks and content, in simple words, it's about creating great or valuable content that naturally earns quality backlinks. Off course both are equally important.

In 2025, it's not about backlink vs content it's about balance. High-quality content builds authority, answers intent, and earns trust. But without strategic backlinks, even the best content may never rank.
That said, Google is leaning harder into topical authority and helpful content, so weak content propped up by links isn’t as effective anymore.
Best combo? Create value-packed content around a tight topical cluster, then build relevant, high-quality backlinks to it. That’s what’s working right now.

Both backlinks and content are important in 2025, but I’d say content still holds more weight. Without good content, backlinks won’t be as effective. Focus on creating valuable, relevant content first, then build quality backlinks to support it.
