There is nothing at all wrong with outsourcing content. We all have certain strengths and abilities and it is wise to play into them. I'm not a bad writer but my technical skills are the worst.
I outsource most of the tech things I need done or I partner up with a technician.
To me, it makes all the sense in the world to outsource or partner up and has proven to work out very well for me over the years so go ahead and outsource but just check things before you put them into play on your site.
If I could add just one small thing to this (great) thread for the benefit of those who struggle with content...
Don't make the mistake of writing for the sake of placing words on your site to increase your word count. If you are basically rewriting someone elses post/article, make sure it stands apart from their article or offers something new, otherwise (and I speak from experience when I say this) G will see through it, particularly if you are trying to build an authority site like BTB is showing you how to.

Great thread, I followed your previous Adsense journey way back. Could you please fill me in on a few on-page factors in WP:
- Do you make it like category>post, or category>post>post (in a hierarchy). I've usually done page>sub-page in a silo like fashion, but I'm now building a blog with categories.
- Do you no-index categories to prevent dup-content? Do you have a blogroll on the first page or a static page.

I do category ---> Post as that is cleanest looking and I never no-index categories, instead I power them with content and rank them like this:
The front page is usually an article that is about 1500 words or so... I like a very generic fresh air article that is more of a gateway page and one that does not target any KWs but rather targets the niche. There will be some KWs in the article but that is not the vision, the vision is a very broad overview of the site. I could care less if it ranks as my goals are to rank the inner pages that are more KW specific.

Just finished reading all post by you and your blog, "ouch my eyes" is what i am saying. The amount of work is just insane.
Everyone somewhere along the road will want to build their own blog that interest them. But if your (mine actually) interest is always on the competitive edge, that's where I always drop the idea. And also there's the chance that the site gets a manual penalty because of doing just one thing wrong.
What advice would you give to me, when trying to blog about a niche that's too competitive (but one of my passion)? I guess there's the reality vs hobby thing kicking in eh.

I'm not overly concerned about competition when I go about building a site... I never have been in anything in my life. Either I'm an arrogant cuss or blind to that sort of thing generally.
That being said, I know that people tend to look for lower hanging fruit when building a site so if you are looking at a competitive niche and are not overly comfortable fighting the big fish, look for an angle or sub-niche that is not so aggressive.
Like I said, competition is nothing I focus on; my sites are all business and finance stuff and they are very competitive generally but I outplan, outwork, and out think the competition.
I'm pretty confident that you can usually outwork the competition as that is the only way I have achieved the low levels of success I have had in my business life.
That's freaking crazy man! THe most I have done in a week was around 80 articles (about 10 a day of 500 words each), but man 17 in a day is SICK!
Anyway man, if you could name a budget to build these kind of sites, what would it be?
I'm thinking about $10k would be decent to get a BIG authority site ranked and going. THough I would like your estimation.
Say the goal is 100k UV per month.

10K is a legit number if you were to outsource the majority of the site; I've spent as much as 17K on a site outsourcing a bunch.
It can get a little expensive for most people but there is a return that lasts longer than the energizer bunny so to me it was worth writing that kind of check back in the day. There is still a fair amount of work though as you have to proof read everything, format it properly etc, so it is not just pay the man and site back.
It it were, I would be doing that a dozen times a year.

Without a doubt 10K would cover your offsite for the most part. I have some good fortune there as I own some services so my costs are given a bit of a break but you would be in good shape with 10K for sure.

Yep, your dev team is quite an edge right there.

Thanks dude, I've added 300-400 words + rich content to each category now. Tracking rankings, and will see if it helps over the next wks. I use Genesis on all my Wordpress sites, and it comes with a good feature for doing this (with custom h1, <title> and meta-data).

That is a little advertising project I set up that ACTUALLY works...every now and then I get something right.

With a site like the ones I build you do not need a massive PBN by any means but as time goes on as I build this site I'll add in the various off site things I am doing and the associated costs. There is not a set "this is the backlinking infrastructure" process as one step will be predicated on the effects of the previous steps.

Very nice journey BTB, basically i am also currently on the same boat, but i suck at writing. May be i should grab dragon speaking thingys to help me out a bit lol. i can write fast, but i am very veryy damn lazy to write, it is kind of boring for me .
