Authority Site SEO Case Study

Update for the day:

I wrote a few articles yesterday, posted one and have the others set to post over the next few days. Total word count for all 4 is a little over 3,000. One article is only 380 words and I believe that you need to have short articles as well as long ones on a site to make it as natural as possible and thus I add in short articles here and there.

BTB has CRAZY writing speed and the content is super fine, reminds me of House, Just instead of Vicodin BTB uses Coffee :champion:

When I get on a roll I can pound out the content... wrote 17 articles yesterday; from 561 words to 1107 words and will drip post them over the next week and a half.

Also, got 7 hits to the site from Google searches yesterday so that is a good sign; have not yet seen the whites of their eyes so any activity is pretty cool to see.

Wow, that is crazy productive! I need to get on a roll like that if I'm ever going to get any traction with the authority site I'm trying to build. It's tough to even get a few articles a week done when juggling a full time job, family, and a 1 yr old that demands so much of my time. Just got to make the time I guess.

I may have missed it, but when you start adding content to your sites do you start adding the low search volume keyword articles first then work up to the higher search volumes, or do you just put out whatever you feel like at the time?

great one...

i have a few questions.
1. how many backlinks will you send to the article pages ? what type of backlinks ? using automatic tool or manual ?
2. how many backlinks you send to homepage ? only using 1 web 2., and about.me ?
3. you said that you send 33 k backlinks to tier 1. what kind of backlinks ? blog comment ?

I usually target the easiest KWs to rank but this time around i just put them in alphabetical order and went to work. Using the easiest ones to rank is good motivation for most as you see results pretty quickly and that is why I typically go that route.

1) That number will vary widely... and I use both automatic and manual but 90% of the time it is manual.
2) Very few. Usually just a parasite type page.
3) This 33K were sent to the parasite pages not to the site directly and they varied in type.

BTB,

Are you typing that much with a keyboard?

I'm sure you know this but you can use Dragon Naturally Speaking if your wrists or elbows get sore. I've tested both a wireless mic and a mic with a 50 ft cord and the corded ones work 100xs better. You can literally walk 50 ft away from your pc, cook, clean, and get chores done as you "type".

That's how I did my last local authority site. I was able to get a little over 300 articles done in 1 week.

If you train the dragon and get a good mic you will get very few typos. I get less typos with the dragon than when I type. And if I had to do 80,000 words on a keyboard I'd lose my mind. :)

Good luck either way.

Ahhhhhh.... so that is why your BHW posts are so long winded... It all makes sense now!

I actually vacillate between Dragon and typing... I can type pretty fast with few mistakes unless I am tired but I have been using Dragon (legit paid for versions) for at least 5 years and even espouse it's virtues on my blog.

I just use a Logitech headset that cost about 50.00 or so and it serves me well. The headset also works well if I want to listen to nothing while I work as it cuts out some of the surround sound that I can periodically encounter on those days that I can hear.

Man.. I know this is a useless post, but I gotta let this out.
I've always been keen on authority sites. And on journey threads.
And I've always wanted to read an Authority Site Journey thread made by BTB!
No joke, honest!

Exactly, how many hours it took you to write all that?? That's insane.

Not more than a couple of hours, really... I get going and it just rolls sometimes. There are plenty of times when it does not so if I am on a roll I just pound so that I am covered for the days when I have nothing.

The amount of work involved in this is going to be huge. Just the onpage stuff would be a massive grind.

I am interested in how you do kw research for a site of this magnitude? Are you actually finding low-med comp specific keywords for each article? Or are you writing a lot of filler articles you just hope may get picked up somehow?

With the way google is now its better to stick relatable keywords all in the same article rather than building sepearate pages for stuff like: best weight loss, best weight loss fast, best weight loss for me, etc, etc.

I'd imagine this would make it ridiculously hard to find 1500 rankable keywords that arent too similar to give their own page to.

I have trouble even finding more than 10 good keywords with this criteria for small niche sites.

I've been building these kinds of sites since about 2006 and they all do very well... never issues with the various critter named algo changes and using the KW research I share here.

Some of it is conversational keywords, some are targeted from research as I know this mixture works very well. I also never use a small niche, my choice for a site is always very broad and then I break that down into smaller niches so I may end up with several hundred "sub-niches".

It is a lot of work... you are 100% correct, but I don't build them quickly so it is not like I spend 14 hours a day on just the one project.

How in the world do you get the ideas to write so much articles in one day thats insane :10:!!!
the most that I could write is 3 articles max, a day then outsource 20 or 30 more.

Any advice in writing at the bulk level. I tried and tested with Dragon in the past this never really works out for me.
Speaking aloud & writing are so different to me in my case, I guess. Blah

Maybe I'm a little insane... actually no maybe about it. Actually I only choose niches that I am familiar with and that I have an interest in... that makes the writing process so much easier.

It is all about knowing your niche, having a bit of a passion for it and writing down KWs and KW phrases that make sense to you to get it all started... then you use tools to get more google friendly KWs and KW phrases and build from there.

Also, it is a bit of a commitment... you have to plow through sometimes just like anything else. If you don't feel like {mowing the lawn|replacing the ceiling fan|cleaning the bathroom} you still do it because it has to be done.

Same with building a site, you work on it even if you are not into it on certain days.

I wish if I could write even one article a day. But, this thread is really motivating. I am also building one site not kind of authority and have outsourced all the content writing stuff.
