Authority Site SEO Case Study

Yesterday was a bit of a lazy day as far as this project went; I set things up to get a few links to the soup.io and about.me pages I built. Ended up with just a little over 33K links to them as of about an hour ago and stopped the process as that is plenty.

I don't think I'll do anything but add another article to the site today as it is Sunday; if I get a little crazy I'll add a tier 2 to those 33K.

BTB the tool you have used to build those 33k tier links to your web 2.0's, is it public? is it a service that you offer as well?

It is not a commercial tool; it is something that I had built that I use for myself and my clients' sites.

I thought of using GSA or another commercially available tool as many guys have them available, but that is not what I use so it would be a little disingenuous as to "my way" of building an authority site.
 
Glad I visited BHW early and caught the beginnings of this thread. Definitely subbing, and looking forward to updates.
 
I know you are not one to do comparisions, but in a nutshell how would you differentiate your particular tool when compared to GSA? As GSA does allow different kinds of link building, contextual etc..I'm just curious about the general concept.

Secondly, you mentioned building web 2.0's to your first two articles and then tiers to the web 2.0s.

1. How many web 2.0's did you build to each article? What is your general approach to building web 2.0's? Do you have an about us, contact us, faq page? or just the main article? Do you place the main article on the home page or an inner page?

2. What kind of anchor text format do you follow with the web 2.0s and then the tiered links to those web 2.0s. What is the % use of your main keyword that you are targetting.

3. Do you use lindexed on the 33k tiers to your web 2.0s, if yes then do you drip index the links or index them all right away? If drip then I'm sure you like to vary the rate with every campaign you run, but what is a general index rate you would recommend on that amount of links.

What my tool does has some of the same variables that one gets with GSA but has other things built in that we have found to be more effective in the ranking of sites. I can't really offer details as it is not a commercial item and used only for my clients' sites and my own personal sites. It was coded by a couple of guys that work with me on a full time basis based on how I operated on a manual level to see what would work.

I won't build any more for a while, I just built those to the root page to let the internet know we were open... sort of like a Grand Opening thing that a brick and mortar would do. Once I have a fair amount of content on the site I'll go at it with some real Web 2.0s and will share what I am doing as to the structure etc.

I am very loose in my anchor text when backlinking and vary the % of the main KW a lot when I do build backlinks so no page is targeted the same as any other.

I do use lindexed on them and drip feed them out as that is natural to me... I do not put them all in the system right away though. I hold a lot out and keep them in a file and not index them on purpose right off. If they index naturally I have no control over that but I like to hold some off for a few months down the road and then drip them in.
 
Six more articles good to go with 2 added over the past couple of days... each article is over 1K words and written by me and they are set to publish automatically over the next week.

I am not doing any more backlinking for a while but did notice something in webmaster tools this AM. I'm ranking for a lot of KWs in there that rather shocked me as I am not doing any real work to speak of yet.

These are all in Google images after looking them over.

Will they get me traffic that converts? Some, I am sure as the demographic is a picture oriented crowd.

How do I get the images to rank in Google like that?

Just wondering, are you doing Press Releases to the site because of its nature or you do that for all your sites?

Great tip on images and something which I tend to neglect, apart from always using the alt text. Going to go through my main site now but as it is an authority site with almost 1200 pages and usually 3 images in each post...Not looking forward to it but sometimes you have to do the hard lines. Thanks again.
 
Thanks for the image tips BTB. I've use alt text, and occasionally caption, but I've never entered a description. Is the image description displayed when someone finds your image in a google search?

I use press releases for all my site as well as my clients; they are a nice method to boost the entire site and are part of a well balanced backlinking infrastructure.

I suggest you do the same with your sites as they are very beneficial and add a meat to your backlinking that many fail to apply.

Yes, you can end up with the image displayed in the actual search as well as if one is looking for an image using the image option in Google. I get both depending on what I am writing and posting about.

*misread the question - no the description is not displayed in the search, that is hidden but read by the bots... sorry about that error in responding.

Suppose you have a site about Cool Motorcycles, many people are going to use the image feature to see bikes and if yours is near or at the top you are going to get hits to your site. Those are people that may spend some time on your site, look for more pics, read some of the content and possible convert to cash.

They also help with bounce rate and that is important.

Wow man, everything seems too expensive, even if i were to do the 1.5k articles myself it would still take a LOT of money to get it done.

Guess I will try your strategy as soo as I reach $10k to spend on this.
