Dear Blackhatters,

I was wondering how URL shortening services such as TinyURL are affecting your SEO efforts. Are the links as powerful as direct links? Less powerful? Or are there any nuances I should be aware of when using these?

If it's a 301 redirect it's almost as powerful (a bit of the link juice is lost during the redirect), if it's some other stuff like a 302 or 307, then it's useless.

Tinyurl is a 301 if I'm not mistaken.

AsI learn bit.ly has not seo value for 301.If I wrong please correct me

does anyone know if bit.ly is 301?

bit.ly uses 301 redirect

http://bit.ly/a/help

bit.ly works by issuing a "301 redirect": a technique for making a webpage available under many URLs. When you shorten a link with bit.ly, you are redirecting a click from bit.ly to the destination URL. A 301 redirect is the most efficient and search engine-friendly method for webpage redirection, and is what bit.ly uses. Because bit.ly doesn?t re-use or modify links, we consider our redirects to be permanent.

thanks wick.

your post is very useful for me, cos my URL is now in Akemist(forgot how to spell) blacklist and wondering how to solve it

since bit.ly is 301, so I can use this service to short my URL and post comments again!!!
