Ask me anything relating to lifting weights/workingout.

For the lady user above, well, let's say that your goal is to lose fat, your workout/diet should be no different than a man. ;)
Stop talking out your arse unless she wants to look like a man.
Women don't want massive traps or huge triceps a womans
workout is much more subtle than a mans, it's more about firming
than bulking women have a totally different bodyfat ratio then men
and different hormones that affect the growth process.

how muck body fat do you have???
at one point I was around 4-5%, now im bulking up a little bit for winter and im around 10-11%
hey, i don't have access to a gym around me. can you recommend a routine for me that i can do at home? i'm currently thinking of buying a pull-up bar and just doing pushups/pullups..but i'd rather have a full body workout going.
This thread here has an insane amout of information on how to workout with just your body weight : http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=5310323
I go to gym 4 times a week but see little gains. What should I eat to bulk up?
If your not gaining weight at all, EAT MORE, Workout hard, Rest HARDER. simple as that. And dont forget to get 1.5gms of protein per pound of body weight.
I have been working out for some time now . I have gained a decent amount of bulk in my body . I would now like to rip (tone) my body in such a way that all the muscles (shoulder , tricep , bicep) are clearly visible.

What kind of a workout is required for this ?Any particular diet to follow ?
I had great sucess with HIIT (High intensity interval training)
Basically you want to do an anerobic excersize's and in between that do an aerobic exercise.
Lift weights,Run,Lift weights, run. Thats the basics of it, look up a ton more of information on wikipedia.
Whats the quickest way to get a 6pack? Ive got a tiny bit of flab on my belly thats keeping me from a 6pack. Like a combo of cardio and crunches/situps?
As the saying goes "abs are made in the kitchen" If you only care about abs right now than you need to be focusing 50% on your diet and 50% on cardio, You can do crunches inbeetween but dont kill your self over them.
Help me as well.

I have been working out since last 1 year. My bicep size is stuck at 15.7" or so. I have tried variety of exercises , with different workout programs, but nothing works for me.

I am taking protein and creatine, if this helps.

If you could tell me some advanced exercises or routine, that would be great.

(I workout my bi's and tri's only once a week) and concentrate more on deadlifts and squats.
I dont meant to sound rude, But triceps are 2/3 of your arm and beiceps are 1/3, biceps are one of the smallest muscles in the body. You should be more concerned with Coumpound lifts. But if you really want to workout biceps than I recomend that you go hard and heavy on back day, And go hard and heavy on bicep/whatever day. Dont forget to EAT EAT EAT :D

How many days a week should I train to gain some muscle mass?
And..what form of training is the best?
IT really depends on your age in my opinion, the younger you are generally the more you can push yourself. If your 15-18 you can workout 5-6days a week Splitting your workout into 2 muscle groups. But if you have problems recovering quickley, your going to want to do a few days less and work your way up slowley until you feel confotable with yourself.
Excample of a routine:
day 1:back/bi's
2:chest/tri's
3:off
4:bicep's/triceps
5:legs/abs
6:Shoulders/ (what ever you want)
7:Off/ Repeat
And like I said, this all depends on how fast you recover.
xoxxx is my nig
yea brotha
Hmm, Do situps really help with abs? i heard it only helps when you do a lot, like 150 a day or something, is that true?
like I said before "abs are made in the kitchen"
Another question, whats the best way to lose belly fat? i know the basics, diet, sit ups, crunches and stuff, but anything else?
Sit ups wont do anything in terms of loosing belly fat, If you want to loose bellyfat your going to need to do cardio. Also Diet is extremley important.
Best exercises for a woman to get rid of bingo wings??

Also, a body pic would be appreciated...just to confirm that you're genuine of course!! ;)
There isnt such a thing as a excersize that can get rid of Bellyfat, Or love handles, or thunder thighs. Its all about cardio and diet, Its the only way to reduce your body fat percentage.. And Certain parts of your body respond differently to cardio, So it might take longer for some parts that others.
BHW weightlifters.. Cool :) I'm "into" that too. I'm a part-time model.

I would Strongley disagree with that, Men will be a intacting substantially larger amount of calories than women. And men will be using different workout techniques. The amount that I dont know that has to do with loosing fat with women could fill a book. Im not a women so Ive never had any experience with it, Ive only talked to others about it.

That's just wrong!

What do you prefer, HST or OVT Training for building mass?

Ive been read tons of great information on this board, So I figured that its my turn to give back. Ive been working out for about 2 years now and have learned a good bit about it. Im not trying to brag, but simpley state a fact, When I was 16 I was able to bench 225 squat 350 and deadlift 400+. Im 17 now with about the same stats just a little better..
Ask me anything relating working out and I will answer it!!

:D

The average person isn't fit enough to do HITT properly that's like
being a couch potato for ten years and then trying to do a full PX90
workout.

been in the bodybuilding game for 4 years, if anyone wants a solid routine to put on size and stay as lean as possible, this is what i do...

monday-shoulders and traps---12 sets

tuesday- back-12 sets

wednesday-chest-12 sets

thursday- arms-12 sets

friday- legs---12 sets

as the op and some people have been saying forget the long distance running, if you want to preserve muscle mass while cutting HIIT is the way to go trust me! do 15-20 mins of that 3-4 times a week.

dont forget theres no point doing any of the above if your diet is not in check, make sure your protein and carbs are correct... an dont come crying to me after leg day hahaha;)

the owner of the gym i go to helps me out a lot.just wanna say good luck to him in the british finals today!

stick with it everyone

Do you know of anyone who has recovered from a major/life-threating injury and returned to FULL fitness?

@hardmanwalker you're a bodybuilder which is something totally different to
someone who trains with weights. Peoples goals are totally different massive
pro bodybuilding muscles arn't everyones idea of looking good. As I stated
earlier I'm a BWLA leader qualified in teaching weight lifting and training. That's
a totally different area than body building. Look at Olympic athleats none of them
look like a sideshow freak. My goals are health, strenth and fitness and
a reasonable amount of body fat is healthy and normal. HITT is great for
rapidly burning fat but as for keeping it off you have to raise your metabolism.

aw cool.. some fellas bodybuilders on this forum :D

nice..

im into bodybuilding for.. dunno. almost 8 years.. on/off

shoot ;)

hey xonbonk or whatever you are completly wrong bodybuilding does not mean being massive muscle like iffb those are things that could not be obtained with just training ,im surprised seems like you know nothing ITS FUCKING DREAM OF EVERYONE TO HAVE A SHREDED BODY WITH SOME AMOUNT OF MUSCLE of course as long as you stay natural you won;t be like those guys ,btw a certificate is nothing doesn;t you are qualified and that you know your shit

everyone is different and training is only 20 percent ,in short what you do outside the gym mostly matter .

Firstly: What's with the xonbonk? I don't know you and have never addressed you. So if you wan't to show your imaturity do that elseware or I will flame every post you make on this board.
Secondly: It's not everyones dream to have a shredded body I don't know where you get your statistics from.
Thirdly: passing an exam shows you have a qualified theoretical and practicle knowledge in the given subject. That's why we have them.

Wow, So much different information!

Well I have been into weight training then bodybuilding for 26 years now - I will be 46 years old next month - and can't do without my iron fix. My advice would be to Not follow anyone elses training routine. Everyone is different and wants different things. I see some good advice in this thread and I see some real bs too.

As for poundage..I have absolutely no idea how much I can bench or deadlift as I am never going to seriously train at that limit. That is for powerlifters not weight trainers or bodybuilders. Too many people get hung-up on the "how much weight can you lift" thing.

Anyone with a dislocated shoulder should NO Way be doing 30 rep sets. That is a recipe for disaster. They should get the root of the problem sorted out by a health professional...ie physio or surgeon. I also used to work in an operating theatre/room for both surgical and orthopeadics and I have seen plenty of muscle damage in my time.

Far too many people who say they want to build muscle never will. The reason? Because they are looking for short-cuts. Straight into heavy duty pro workouts or steroids because they can't wait. Never ever take steroids. Never. You can get to the same place (unless you want to compete in the top levels) without it. It just takes a little longer.

Also, don't fk yourself up by over-training and keep it sensible...ie remember that non-lifting days are every bit as important as the lifting days because that is when your body repairs itself....(notice I said days and not day), then you will get what you want if you want it enough to stay the course. Bit like BH'ing.

Read a book on sports nutrition and get an understanding on how the body works then apply that understanding and build a workout for yourself based on what kind of muscle growth you want. Do you want to firm up, do you want to get ripped or do you want to build large muscle mass? All totally different approach.

If you are a beginner, then stick to a beginners routine until you really are ready to progress. A beginners routine is different - it is designed to shock the muscles into growing - and should be followed for around 6-8 weeks before moving on to a proper routine...but like I say, everyone is different.

Just my tuppence worth.

Huh, flame flame flame.. That's the hobby of some people on here.. Without actually using their brains to TRY to understand what is being meant, they just flame. Well, people like you form part of our world, so let's just live with it.. Lol..

So for you, ALL men want "massive traps or huge triceps" and NO men at all is into "firming" (David Beckham?). Trust me, it's really not this way..and you should stay away from the fitness niche..

And yes, congratulations, "different hormones affect the growth process"! Woooow, was that in yesterday's G00gle Trends? Huh, the lady was talking about
Best exercises for a woman to get rid of bingo wings??

My point being, (wouldn't be surprised if you still didn't get it by now) that if the lady wanted to tone up, her workout shouldn't be significantly different from the workout of a man WITH SIMILAR GOALS..

You should also probably review your...well, nevermind, that's too much work ;)

Hmmm.. Same thing, but more polite and discussive.. "Larger amount of calories", yeah, I know. I was talking about relativity. If 200lbs male fitness trainee would need 200g of protein per day for muscle maintainance, it doesn't mean that the 100lbs girl needs 200g as well. The guy used 1g/lb, and so should the girl.
And if the guy is can lift maximum 500lbs, but trains using 60% of the weight, and the girl's Rep Max is 50lbs, she might also train with 60% of the weight, i.e. 30lbs (and not with 300lbs!).
That's what I meant, by training same as the guy :)

I understand what your saying, But im still going to have to disagree with you on that. Women will being doing a different workout routine than men.. Men usually build for mass, Thats not what a woman generally wants to do.. Im not trying to flame you, I just want to get my point accross.
