Are hack domains working?

Redd.it instead of reddit.com, linked.in instead of linkedin.com and so on.

If the .com was taken would a hack be anywhere near as successul?

I've tried in the past and been very unsuccessful and personally prefer the .com.

Theres a specific name I am targetting, there's too much compeition to get the .com or even .co.uk but is possible to make the name work with a .it or .be. Would you go with .it/.in/.be etc if it mean you would have a domain with a name you a targetting or would you change too something different to have the .com?

Check the robots.txt on hack domains. Then check site:hackdomain and see if there are pages indexed.
 
just be aware that the original companies can easily seize your domain then. the domain registrar will just hand it to them.
 
U will just waste your money . I only tried to use a logo for a brand and they sent me an email saying if i don't take it down they are going to sue me
 
Let me get this right.. If the brand has not bought up all there domain extensions.. I can get in trouble for buying it.. I do not think so.. It is up to the brand to buy all the .info, .co.uk, .biz, .org, ETC..

They gonna say u used their brand name and the brand name is copyrighted. Thoes companies got some good lawyers that can mess u up..

Ok for example: cnn.xyz is currently available.. you mean I cannot buy it? so why is it on sale then? Just asking...
 
Ask yourself how sustainable and scalable is this.
 
Remember the Australian guy who had BBC.com and he had registered it before BBC.co.uk , this is back in the mid 80's. Even the Ozzy government backed him up when the tried to force him to sell it to the BBC. He lost big style.
I guess if your an affiliate of a company and you go for a free subdomain with the product in it. As long as its not against the company T&C's it would be ok?
otherwise your going to get bummed with no lube lol
 
I do that sort of thing all the time.

I can usually keep the domain up for a few months before the legal teams catch up to me but have never had to do anything other than take the domain down or give it up (one instance where Google demanded it) and never had to pay anything to anyone.

It can be very profitable but it is not a long term play for any particular domain.

The list of companies I use are all well known huge brands and if you build the site right you can bank.
 
dont matter how you do this , the orgenal copywrite owner will sue your arese.

you trying to fraud a recognised copywritten brand .

brand fraud not like other fraud just the name can cause big court case .

even images that look like branded image get heavily sued

be very carefull and solicitors go for maxinum penalty in the $$$$$$$ trust me they get it aswell ....

never fuck with a brand
 
you are talking about typo domains , old days ppl made a lot of money getting and selling typo domains ... , now big competition in this field .
 
Well even myself have sent legal notice for copying our brand domain name. They had to put down as the person wast trying to sell the similar domain name of our brand domain..

And if its not a brand, like a product cloth.es or fru.it. Nobody owns copywrite. Do you think it would work as well as if it was a .com.
The .com is an unrelated consultancy and the .co.uk is just placeholder page.

May be worth a poke at a blast-site with this then as you can get really cheap domain extensions ATM ?
 
I'm into domaining and I know little bit about domain hack. Domain hacks are not used generally. People, especially the big companies buy hack of their mainstream domain as a way for brand protection. Some buy for fun. You may be surprised to know that when Instagram was founded it's url was instagr.am but later the management migrated to instagram.com. Domain hacks are not taken into account by google while ranking on search engine. It's better not to develop sites using a domain hack.
