Back in the day, engagement groups helped boost posts into explore. Does this trick still work in 2025, or does IG’s algorithm ignore it now?

Engagement groups don’t really work anymore in 2025. Instagram’s algorithm is smarter now it spots fake or forced engagement and often ignores it. Sometimes it even hurts your reach. Focus on real interactions, saves, shares, and content people actually spend time on.

What works better in 2025 is focusing on content that drives real saves, shares, and watch time . If you want a safer growth tactic, try mixing Reels with trending sounds and consistent posting - Instagram is heavily pushing those right now.

Rather than joining those groups, create quality content, content that drives people to engage, engage with creators in the same niche, and try to reach out if they can do a collab.

Engagement groups aren’t as effective as before. Instagram’s AI can spot inauthentic activity quickly. Better to invest time in creating content that naturally sparks conversations and saves those signals carry more weight today.

Honestly, not like they used to. The platforms got a lot smarter at spotting that kind of artificial boost. You're better off focusing on genuine engagement and solid content to really grow.

Definitely, pods don’t do much anymore because platforms prioritize real connections. Focus on consistent, genuine content to build a loyal audience that’s what lasts.

Yes they are still good if you can join the ones that allow you to repost stories. Many agencies who are running models; get there other Models to repost on their stories since that will help get more reach.

Repost networks, like agencies getting their models to share each other’s stories, can still boost visibility. But classic engagement groups have lost impact in 2025, as Instagram’s smarter algorithm often flags or ignores fake activity. The real growth now comes from genuine saves, shares, and meaningful content that holds attention.

They don’t work well anymore, Instagram now pushes real engagement, not group boosts.

Back in the day, engagement groups did help push posts into Explore especially when the algorithm prioritized quick engagement spikes within the first hour. But by 2025, that trick has lost most of its punch.

Instagram’s newer algorithm focuses more on authentic engagement signals than volume. It tracks who is engaging, how often, and whether those accounts have real audience overlap with your content. If IG detects repetitive or coordinated engagement patterns (like the same group of accounts always liking and commenting), it simply discounts that data.

That said, private engagement groups still help a bit but only when the participants are real, niche-relevant accounts who naturally interact with your content type. Think of it less as a “hack” now and more as a network of creators supporting each other genuinely.

A lot of people are wrong here. Engagement groups pushing you to the explore page isn't a thing anymore, not because instagrams algorithm is so smart but in order for the algorithm to push your post it needs to be picked up by it first and presented to other users. If that user shows interest in that posts the post is shared to more users by the algorithm. Engagement groups are now the same as if you had a blog site with some traffic on it and share your post on there. People will like it but the algorithm doesnt take that into account because the post wasnt presented to those users by the algorithm.

Engagement groups are still good to boost your post numbers though, which can also help in various ways. Would you rather watch a reel that has 2 likes or 500 likes? I still use them and they work for me

They can help with early reach, but long-term growth still depends on genuine engagement and quality content.
