Engagement groups pushing you to the explore page isn't a thing anymore, not because instagrams algorithm is so smart but in order for the algorithm to push your post it needs to be picked up by it first and presented to other users. If that user shows interest in that posts the post is shared to more users by the algorithm. Engagement groups are now the same as if you had a blog site with some traffic on it and share your post on there. People will like it but the algorithm doesnt take that into account because the post wasnt presented to those users by the algorithm.

Engagement groups are still good to boost your post numbers though, which can also help in various ways. Would you rather watch a reel that has 2 likes or 500 likes? I still use them and they work for me
