Are backlinks still important?

Where the fck do these people come out each day? There is a stupid thread like this every second day in BHW. One day it's are PBN dead, then if backlinks are dead. People, THINK before you ask! It's like asking if fucking gravity still exist every morning cause some dumbass told you that it's gone.

The only thing that has changed is that I use 100 generic and url anchors for 100 links instead of 1-2 EM anchors :)

Hey guys,

I read somewhere the other day that Googles new or upcoming penguin update will eliminate backlinks as a rankling factor and instead focus on ranking sites with better content.
Can someone give me some info on this? I can't remember where I saw it but I'd like to read it. and learn more about that update.

Thanks
Hey Petru,

Nice to meet you, I see your a relatively new member so welcome to BHW! :)

Here is a great article straight from the head of Google's Search Team, Mr. Matt Cutts.

Answers the great old question regarding backlinks and their importance still today in Google's ever so changing Algorithm, enjoy!

Matt Cutts: We Tested Dropping Backlinks From Algorithm, It Was Much Worse

Ignore the Google rumors, keep yours eyes and ears focused on new SEO case studies and journeys. That is the best way to separate the 'noise' from the true 'signal' about what is working in the ranking game. All those studies continue to show backlinks remain one of the most important, and easiest factors to adjust to manipulate a higher position in the search engines for your keywords.

So long as Google construes some sites as having more authority than others, the interactions the high authority sites have with other sites will strongly affect ranking position. Backlinks are the most obvious form of such interaction, so backlinks will remain very important.

Backlinks are always important, no update can minimize the efficiency of backlinking.

So, go for backlinks - I am giving you the gurantee.

I think this thread will end with the conclusion: SEO is dead .... again, lol

No, it will end with ?SEO is alive..."

The importance of backlinks will not disappear at all, as there is nothing else which is telling Google, why a site is of good quality or not.

Look at scientific journals, we have citations (like CF) what gives the quantity of other scientific papers citing and ranking the scientific paper and we have trusted referrals (like TF), which say what kind of quantitative sources link to that paper (website).

It?s the best information google can gather and knowing Majestic Trust Flow (TF) and that it's updated daily, there is no other metric more relevant this days.

Another aspect is that Google?s emphasis is to put strong value to the kind of backlinks:

Relevancy and diversity are the most important factors telling if the backlink coming to a website is of any importance or relevant, so in future, they will just exclude all the spam links, most ?experts? produce this days...

Backlinks are still important factor if they are coming for high PR sites and much better relevant with your niche, if you buy the blasts of scrapebox, Xrumer or other bad quality links then Google algorithm obviously get you out from ranking. Its hard to feed a website with quality backlinks because it need a lot of time and money but you just have only that way to get ranked.

Back Links are always important from Google Birth to 2014.

Lol rankings based on content just sounds funny to me. Googles algorithm is....an algorithm, it can't comprehend what it reads. It doesn't know whats "quality".
