The importance of backlinks will not disappear at all, as there is nothing else which is telling Google, why a site is of good quality or not.
Look at scientific journals, we have citations (like CF) what gives the quantity of other scientific papers citing and ranking the scientific paper and we have trusted referrals (like TF), which say what kind of quantitative sources link to that paper (website).
It?s the best information google can gather and knowing Majestic Trust Flow (TF) and that it's updated daily, there is no other metric more relevant this days.
Another aspect is that Google?s emphasis is to put strong value to the kind of backlinks:
Relevancy and diversity are the most important factors telling if the backlink coming to a website is of any importance or relevant, so in future, they will just exclude all the spam links, most ?experts? produce this days...
