Hey everyone,

No one probably cares but I just got approved as an editor in DMOZ today :). Hopefully that means they accepted my site (they should have). If anyone is having problems getting their site into DMOZ let me know. You still have to stick to the usual DMOZ guidelines and TOS etc...

So... we can ask you to speed up the process? Cause my site follows the rules, but it's been a few months since i submited it and no result.

Why mention it? You know you have just opened the floodgates of PM from noobs that will want to pay you $5 to add a blogger spot site right?

BTW I have $10 with your name on it ;) jk

Congrats Mate,

people still care about DMOZ listing, just that it takes forever for it to happen. Could be frustrating and gets folks to kinda discard the idea.

My application has been there for months, and no response. Some categories are grossly under-manned.

Hopefully, you'll help us speed up the process:)

Congrats.

fine. So when can i send my application to get approve by you? :D

Congrats.

If you wanna, flip the site. Dmoz listing will fetch some additional dollars, other than that, i dont find any use in it.

Even i am intrested , if you could get my application approved.

Thanks for the messages everyone,

I'm managing the following category:

"Open Directory - Regional: Oceania: New Zealand: Otago: Localities: Dunedin: Business and Economy: Computers and Internet: Web Design and Development"

I can only edit sites submitted to this category, but if you have a website I may be able to submit it for you in the appropriate category. Thing is, with DMOZ you have to drill down to the deepest category your site will fit in (look at my category for an example), and you will have to follow their guidelines very closely etc. It took me over 30 mins to go over everything and reading the rules thoroughly paid off, even though its boring lol.

I think if I submit someones site according to the rules of DMOZ and request to be editor of the site's category, chances of approval for peopes sites could be high, although some categories have enough editors. If I log into my editor portal then submit the site to relevant category etc, that could work. Sometimes the Head Editor oversees everything. I don't really want to bend any rules as it has taken me 5 years to get this far, but if your site fits the rules and guidelines I can see what I can do for you all. If you want to talk about anything else pm me or email me through my site's Contact Us page (site in signature). As for paying me to get a site listed, that would be interesting, although if your site's category already has editors etc they have the power to accept your site, I think I could only look at your site and write an appropriately constructed listing (while keeping with the rules etc) and mention to the editor about the site's content and characteristics.

So what do you need to get an editor application approved? I've tried a few times without success.

Congratz man, so what's the secret of your success?

Good luck. I was an editor back in the day when DMOZ meant everything (as in mad AOL traffic) and things were great until my competitors trumped up complaints against me and got me kicked out. Just be aware that it's extremely political, and watch your back.

Probably by not looking for SEO methods that are about 2 out of date.

DMoz can still be of use in some categories, but is absolutely not the strength it used to be.

I was just about to PM you to have a look into my submission and then I checked and my site has been accepted, this is the only the second site I have had accepted into Dmoz in over 5 years. I submitted the site in August so it has taken over 8 months for the submission to go through.
