Anyone here have their site listed in DMOZ directory?

When selecting the catagory to submit to i went through science/engineering/surveying/ociania which was only a list of about 10 other companies. This is exactly what I done, if I remember correctly. Except I may have forgotten to place my site in oceania/new zealand. Am going to try resubmitting my site now, the last time I tried was over 3 months ago.

By the way, good to see a BlackHatter from downunder! Although when it comes to cricket nothing makes me more happier than seeing the carnage England are dishing out to the Aussies in Adelaide atm lol.

Have re-submitted my website to DMOZ after trying over 3 months ago. On the submit page they give the following tips:

Keep the description of your site brief - no longer than 25-30 words. A well-written, objective description will make listing your site easier.

• Do not use any HTML tags
• Write in complete sentences and/or descriptive phrases using proper grammar, punctuation and correct spelling.
  • Do not use ALLCAPS in your description.
  • Avoid capitalizing every word in a sentence.
  • Don't repeat the title of your site in the description.
• Avoid using promotional language and strings of key words and search terms. Words and phrases like "cool" and "best darn site" will be removed.

URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator, which means your site address. Example: http://dmoz.org

• Do not add mirror sites.
• Do not submit an URL that contains only the same or similar content as other sites you may have listed in the directory. Multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites.
• Do not disguise your submission and submit the same URL more than once.Example: http://dmoz.org and http://dmoz.org/index.html.
• Do not submit any site with an address that redirects to another address.
• The Open Directory has a policy against the inclusion of sites with illegal content. Examples of illegal material include child pornography; libel; material that infringes any intellectual property right; and material that specifically advocates, solicits or abets illegal activity (such as fraud or violence).
• Do not submit sites "under construction."
• Submit pornographic sites to the appropriate category under Adult.
• Submit non-English sites to the appropriate category under World.
• Don't submit sites consisting largely of affiliate links.

Please supply a short and descriptive title.

• Always opt for the official name of the site.
• Do not use ALL CAPITAL letters.
• Exclude promotional language in the title.

I spent a good 20 minutes carefully going over my sites description, making sure it was in the appropriate category before I hit Submit. I looked at their guidelines as well as how the other listings in my chosen category were written. If my site does somehow get in, you'll see on this thread in God knows how long...

I can't fathom why a directory would be viewed with such importance by anyone.

Directories were there because we didn't have any decent Search Engines.

Thats true, although I find it alot easier to find what I want through a search engine like Google.

you can read as much of the submission guidelines as you like.... dont make a difference unless....

In short make sure:

URL is correct

Description of site is not advertising directly your site eg. dog forum...."community forum for dog owners"..dont get into two much detail and stuff your keywords - you will get rejected, if clever you can put a couple of keywords in here as this will be picked up as your meta tags but try and keep description concise.

Punctuated and grammar correct

Always go for "niche" sections or "local" sections relevant to your site - more likely to get in eg. instead of "forums" go for "forums/pets/dogs/usa/california" etc...

Pray you have a "nice honest" editor who loves the role

Hi everyone, my website was accepted in 2 weeks. The site is full with original content etc. But i think that Dmoz sucks. Before few years Dmoz was great powerful SEO tool, but now webmasters have link-blasting, comment posters and others black hat tool.

I think:
One backlink from standard directory submission gives us 1 point.
Dmoz listing - 5 points.
Link Blast(ScrapeBox or XRumer) with keyword in anchor text - 100 points.

After my Dmoz accepting - my website don't change his search engine ranking. But after each blast i am going to the top.

*Points are abstract value, that help me to present my thinks.

1 of my sites is listed. Traffic hasent increased just the same as before

Just curious.... what kind of affect would blasting the page where you are listed have with something like Scrapebox? Wouldn't it theoretically increase the value of the link? I seriously doubt there would be an Akismet ban.

Anyone have experience with this?
