    Hi everyone,

As it seems so hard to get a website listed, I regard DMOZ as being the "holy grail" when it comes to getting a website listed in a directory that has an excellent reputation, as well as an equally excellent Page Rank. I am wondering if anyone on here has their site listed in DMOZ, and how they managed to get their site listed. For the people that have been sleeping under a big rock for years and years, here are some links that show you info about DMOZ:

    Code:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DMOZ
    http://www.dmoz.org/
    Some additional info:

    Code:
I checked their page rank on http://prchecker.info/check_page_rank.php and the Page Rank is currently 8.
As of today, their main url has over 1.5 million links (http://www.google.co.nz/search?sclient=psy&hl=en&site=webhp&source=hp&q=link%3A+www.dmoz.org&btnG=Search).

    Cheers and long live BHW!

Lol how do you mean a living 404 page. I know what a 404 page is, just havnt heard of a "living" 404 page...

It probably depends what you're looking for. But upon trying, and comparing the searching experience in DMOZ compared to a standard Google search, you're more likely to get what you want by using the latter. Also, I think that directories in general provide a narrower scope of information as opposed to the big 3 search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing).

I also notice all their links are d0f0ll0w, but the actual page rank a given link is on, is "N/A", so am not sure if any link juice is shared or not.

The only site I ever managed to get listed on DMOZ was a local site that was in a location specific catagory (to a small village). I have to say I don't think it made a big difference to my rankings though.

I have only one site listed but was accepted in the early age of dmoz, so it's there for many years, at that time my site was mediocre, but the listing it's still there now, I think the listing is counting in SEO. However, I don't know any trick as how to get in these days.

Also, I have had numerous website valuation tools etc saying my website is listed in DMOZ yet I can't even find it in there manually. Would love to get my site listed but am thinking whether DMOZ is a waste of time or not.

Am starting to wonder this myself. Some sites listed on there aren't exactly "great". Done a few searches on what you just said, heres what I came up with...

Dmoz hates me. Don't worry about it if you can't get in. It's not the end of the world

you will find if you are running a decent site - chances of you getting in are reduced...why????

...cos most editors are "experts" in that directory you submit as such you will find most of them have "undisclosed" sites they own in there....why would you want competition as a website owner when you know DMOZ can give you huge increases in serps?

Each editor has a cpanel to approve postings and the days are gone where work is checked by a "senior editor" as such you can abuse these to your hearts content...

I know a number of editors who have not disclosed sites and have several in their specific directories they manage...their tactics are dont approve sites that are seen as a threat and either:

    a) delete the listing for bs reasons - this means you have to submit again and go through the waiting process or...

    b) completely ignore the listing...and here it sits forever

    c) Only criteria for editing is you need to make one edit in 3 months so hence why point"b" becomes the issue for most people....

Conclusion: be an editor, find an editor or forget it as you will never get in....(ok there are a few editors that enjoy the role and work to rule...but few and far between....

Thanks for all the feedback everyone,

For those of you that have managed to have a website accepted into the DMOZ directory, are there any good tactics/methods etc that would greatly enhance the chances of getting a website listed?

If all that is true, then DMOZ is a waste of time. I suppose I can liken this situation to a huge batch of fruit: For every bad apple there is, theres bound to be a shitload of much better ones out there.

I was able to get my work website listed early this year. My offline job is working for a surveying firm here in australia. When selecting the catagory to submit to i went through science/engineering/surveying/ociania which was only a list of about 10 other companies. I think the key to being accepted is to make sure the catagory you try get submitted to is the absolute best one you could of chosen, it will speed up the acceptance rate. It tooke me only a little over a month to get get accepted.
