Hungary? I live here, but pretty much everyone wants to jump ship at least from the younger generation. I know a lot of people who went to Western EU to work and don't come back after that including my sister. Almost there's no family where at least one of the children didn't go to Western EU, which starts to fuck with economy, healthcare, there are already not enough workers in some areas.
That's how great it is to live here. I mean the country itself is nice, but the wages are low as fuck, which makes the people depressive, we are not a happy bunch, we are not friendly with each other. Most people can't afford shit here, they live day to day, prices are rising faster than the salaries, especially the prices of rent and property.
I'm not really a fan of the capital. Too much concrete and dog shit, too many arrogant people. Smaller cities with around 150-200k population like Pécs or Szeged are much more liveable.
If you're a fan of the countryside, there's a place called the "Hungarian Provence", it's on the Northern shore of Lake Balaton in "Káli-medence". That's really nice, the lake is near. A great place to live.
Ii just read an article the other day, which was about a Dutch person who bought a smaller village for himself here.

He slowly, but surely bought all the houses, he even relocated the gipsy families to nicer homes. It's a well recognizeable pattern that pensioners from Western EU buy property on the countryside.
You asked about the rent:
I live in the historical downtown of a bigger city in a small, 55 m2 apartment with a garden, rent costs 200 EUR/month, but even if you live in the capital, you shouldn't pay more than double for something with the same size.
If you're interested in other prices as well, these will help: https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/country_result.jsp?country=Hungary, https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=Hungary&country2=Hungary&city1=Budapest&city2=Pecs&tracking=getDispatchComparison. It's accurate, i checked.
If i ever were to relocate, i would follow my sister to Southern France (close to the Spanish border on the coast) or i also like Northern Italy.
