ANTIVIRUS!!! read me guys, seriously

Thanks OP - it just caught a trojan for me! ESET had missed it too, so that says something.

Bookmarkwiz, ****************** and SENuke all are Trojans according to this. Guess they're safe?

It didn't show anything this time, but I am going to run it more to see if it finds anything in the future.

it spoted skype.exe as infected

running avg free here

Avast free is way,way better than AVG free. It is one of the few free antivirus programs that detects the now prevalent gumblar virus. Malwarebytes I've found to be useless. Of the paid Kaspersky always gets the best reviews.

Skype uses a crazy amount of anti-debugging and anti-inspection techniques, so I wouldn't be surprised by it being flagged.

Google "silver needle in the skype" if you're interested in the technicalities. :)

EDIT: Wow, Skype's security systems actually have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skype_security.

I'll wait and see what other people say about it before I use it. Right now I use the premium version of the AntiSpyware program, Malware and Avira Antivir.

Sorry to spoil the party, but your AV might tell you that you don't have a virus but that doesn't mean that you don'. All it might indicate is that it couldn't or didn't read the stub on the binder. By nature most AV progs aren't all that good at picking up rootkits etc.
I have run HitmanPro for a while now, but a couple of days ago I picked up a dropper. I run Avast Home and it caught it coming in and moved to chest. On rebooting I ran Hitman and MalwareBites and got different outcomes, so ran the PCTools one and NoAdware. ALL of them picked up different signatures so go figure. Now moving from IE to try out Opera

thanx for this. i'm using norton 360 but i'm installing it anyway. hope it cleans my pc.

There is a virus that sits in the atapi.sys file (inside C:\Windows\System32\drivers), and no other tools but this can remove it, I know because I have just removed it from my girlfriends pc and used hours to search on forums and search with online scanners, just make a search for either atapi.sys virus or virus in windows temp folder.

This virus kept making new svchost.exe files in different named folders inside windows/temp, then the antivirus made a popup, I put it in quarantine, and then two minutes after it made a new folder and the popup came again and so on.

I read somewhere that I had to put the harddrive on another pc and from there delete the atapi.sys file, but before I did that I searched some other forums and there I found some that had repaired it with Hitman35, which then removed mine to.

And as the OP also said, it's only to remove virus/rootkits/adware/spyware etc. and not to use instead of the anti virus program you have installed, it can find and remove things that many others don't.

This is the Virus that crashed my Vista machine.

I was scanning my memory with AVS and it picked up the Atapi Trojan which I sent to be locked away then AVS said I had to reboot then that was when the problem started.
PC wouldn't boot up, so I had to run Linux from disc to remove all the files/folders to an external drive.
I think for now I will for the time being revert back to running a Linux based system.
Will use this purely for my business.

Thx trophaeum, iam one of them guys who dont like to download anything unless iam pritty sure its safe, i use nod32, but i gave it a spin and glad i did works great on my pc all so did my misses laptop was clean on both so thanks again

So I downloaded this program and scanned my computer and it found 1 file from a program called aimp it said was malaware, so I asked it to remove the program.

Thanks

i actually used hitman for years, but recently i had a problem that hitman couldn`t solve and i installed emisoft anti-mallware, and it found even more stuff hitman just overlooked and my system returned to normal.

give it a try, it also has a 30 day free trail.

Just downloaded it and I'd like to say thank you!

I had a rootkit in my system (i back door to where people can have access to my computer with admin credentials)
So quite serious lol. Thanks OP!

Thanks man. I'll give this a try.

Does anyone here have a problem on a file called Eula.rtf? It's a malicious ware detected by malwarebytes. I have this on my computer and malwarebytes can't remove it for me. I'll try Hitmanpro now.

Identified a couple of my patches as malware, but other than that clean.
I still stand by Webroot Security Essentials. Its not free, but you always get what you pay for. I have heard Microsofts new free malware software is good, but they really don't have a good track record on antimalware.

Hi
Is Malwarebytes better than Spysweeper?
And also is Kaspersky internet security or PURE on its own better than the others mentioned?

if you want to lockdown ur system to a 'safe' state, kis, mbam with realtime monitor and hitman run on reboots, do that and you are very unlikely to get hit with something and if you do chances are you wont have it for long :)
