everyone always claims they have the best av app and blahblahblah, well, im sure you think you do but i have a request for anyone reading this post, goto

http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro

and download the 32 or 64bit ver, watevr suits your computer, and run a scan, it doesnt take long, its one of the few apps that picks up some of the most evil of the latest rootkits and removes them properly and it uses 5 antivirus apps to scan suspicious files... give it a go guys, its free for 30days (you only have to activate it if you ahve to remove a file)

if it did/didnt find something, post on the thread please, let others know, also include the av app and the firewall if any you were using, let people decide for themselves whats good or not

Thanks for the tip. Downloading and installing now.

Ummm, I just checked the downloads. Can't figure out which version I should download since both the 64 bit and 32 bit versions indicate Windows XP (I have a Mac laptop, running XP via bootcamp). If in doubt, which one should I go for?? I did check the site first but not seeing anything.

Hey trophaeum. I currently use nod32 and it works fine on my PC. I just wanted to know does this slow does system speed.

right click on my computer and hit properties and see if it says 64bit anywhere there, if not you are 32bit (you probably are 32bit being that its xp)

this does one off scans, it doesnt sit there constantly scanning, by default (you can uncheck the box) each boot it'll scan your system and submit suspicious files etc

its only a checker, not a solution to a good av app

edit: rephrasing the above sentence a little, it can remove/quarantine stuff as well, not just tell you its there

if you do find something on your system, it is probably worth also downloading http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and scanning with a full scan with that after updating it as well, again, free for scan and remove with no realtime stuff, if you pay for it (lifetime license) you get a realtime monitor with it

I would recommend Avast Antivirus head over to http://www.filehippo.com and it should be on the first page, it has saved me a bunch of times from malicious links etc. it's completely free and regularly updated.

The stated tool is good but it would be more efficient to have antivirus that can tell you when you're about to visit a harmful site or download something that will harm your computer.

Scanned and all clear. Feel much safer with second opinion. You never can tell unless you scan.

-Running AVG (basic, most importantly free),
-Proxy firewall (not sure if that does anything since I don't use proxies), and
-CCleaner after most uses. Also have a
-uniblue registry cleaner - acquired version from BHW.

Oh, it's called HitmanPro. Initially thought it was your aff link lol :D

Thanks!

Malwarebytes & Kaspersky. Haven't had a bug in 2 years ;) Might have to check this one out as added Protection. THX.

yea, i can vouch for avast. its saved my ass so many times ive lost count. it updates the virus database atleast twice aday on my computer. plus you can signup for a free 1 year license which is a plus. its an initial 60 day trial, whenever that runs out just get yourself the free license.

I get this warning when trying to download:

This tools doesn't work properly cause its deleted my windows license key now my pc showing "This copy of windows not genuine"

just ran a scan and came up clean. It did however say it was uploading emftp.exe to scancloud or something. Not sure why. I've used emftp for years now. This is junk imo

Did you reboot?

M$ released an auto-update patch a few days ago that is killing off a TON of pirated Windows machines upon reboot/update. I would guess it isn't the tool, but you got the update, and now you're toast.

For anyone running anon-legit copy of Windows VISTA OR 7, TURN off Auto Updates! You WILL get nuked!

Better safe than sorry!

And NewMoon, backup, re-install Windows, DO NOT ALLOW IT TO GET ONLINE... Turn OFF AUTO UPDATES, then get the machine online, and you'll be ok :)
