I see so many people buying SEO and over optimizing their anchor texts.

Don't do that.

Add in generics, LSIs, brand names, naked urls, mentions (the url without a hyperlink) and even competitors' anchors.

You will be much better off if you are trying to rank a site for the long term.

Here's some generics you can use (not mine as I found the online somewhere). If you are going to use the list mix them up so you are not using the same generic anchors for all your {sites|links}.

Exactly right on point. If you want long term success on ranking u have to use branding, generics and naked urls. I usually use 1-2 percent keyword anchors. It takes longer to rank but it is much much safer to stay out of the radar.

And what about article content, how much times do you guys use the main kw & the LSI ones ? (For around 1500-2000 words)

Well said buddy! a bit hard explaining it to clients though..

I can usually get that point across to clients and even to those that are not clients that ask for free advice.

Explain to them that 2012 has come and gone, hula hoops are no longer in vogue, people don't play with yo-yos much and a slinky is something that is no longer fun.

You can even tell them that Ron Popeil's Pocker Fisherman is only owned by old people who use the name Basstrackerboats on BHW.

Do exact match keywords lower your rankings or is it just a safety measure?
I constantly see risky backlink profile websites (80-100 % do follow and all anchored with 2-3 keywords) that are successfully being ranked on top of Google for 2-3 years.

We always suggest our client this way :)

It is for safety so that your sites lasts longer through updates. Almost never seen 80-100 anchored profiles that last 3 years. Can you pm me the keyword if it is not a problem also is it for google.com or like google.de or something?

How about internal linking? Same?

If your website is about 15-20 pages i don't think it would be a problem when you interlink with your anchors. For example you have a review site for lcd tv's it is normal for you to link for "Sony 32 Inch Lcd" look at this page. For "LG 32 Inch Lcd" look at another page. In that case anchor usage would be correct.

If you have thousands of pages of content i wouldn't suggest that though. Interlinking with the same anchor would cause a problem for sure in the future. You could use a silo structure in that case.

I have EMD. What are your recommendations? If I used the Branded this will be my main anchor too, so am stuck with this dilemma

Yes that is true if you use naked urls or brand anchors it would still be counte as an Anchor text bec you have a EMD site. I don't buy EMD's anymore but i suggest this to anyone who does. Let's say again you have a site for "lcdtvreviews.com" . What i would suggest you is this. Put the Title and H1 Tag a Brand like this. "Thisismylife's Lcd Tv Reviews" And use Brand as "Thisismylife" or "Thisismylife2 Reviews". That works too. I have done for couple of clients and it worked well.
