On a more serious note, as long as we're both here I thought I'd make a quick suggestion regarding how to stop the midnight spam that's been happening. You know the guy that auto-creates accounts every 2 minutes at around 3 A.M and spams phone numbers along with spintaxed text? Yeah, him.
So when someone is doing massive scale spam through VOIP or telephony protocol, it's next to impossible for them to spoof or change their numbers without it requiring manual work on their end, right? So what if instead of deleting all the accounts that he creates, you look at all the phone numbers he's previously used and apply a global filter to BHW which prohibits anyone from creating or commenting on threads if their text includes one of his previously used numbers?
Sure, he'll just change his numbers in a couple days, but the pattern I've noticed is that he
doesn't use many at one time, so all of his spammy posts will have his 2 or 3 numbers in common, and then his automated system can be blacklisted in waves.
Wouldn't it be better to block his spam at the number level than at the account level? It will require more effort from him if it requires human interaction on his part everytime you blacklist one of his numbers, rather than fighting his account-creating bot by banning his account as you see them. The time it takes for him to start spamming again will also be prolonged.
Have you thought of implementing something like this, Damien?
