Hey Danny, just another question, in what percentage are your sales coming from the products you are promoting on your site? I've made 40+ sales already this month, but none of them are from the products I'm promoting. Since amazon's been pretty strict recently I kinda feel worried, so what's your number? And anybody ever banned because of mostly irrelevant sales?Cheers

I have seen a lot of people get banned do to cookie stuffing...I would NEVER stuff amazon...IMHO

I've made about 283 Sales So Far This Month - and most of them are on Topic or what the site was designed to sell. However there are some Books and Movies that obviously the people bought extra ... I honestly can't give you a % because I don't really care - I am more focusing on time spent vs return - what sites sell better and what content gets ranked higher.

EMD promotes a keyword people search but sells all sorts of related products -- I try to have several high value products prominent and promote those - but I also have accessories because alot of times that's what people want.

It's up to you to decide how many products / reviews information or otherwise you have -- and that depends probably on how many sites you intend to build.

Backlinking you can read the thread for what's been done.

Overall from alot of questions I have been asked and Pm's I have received - alot of people like 60% seem to want to take some sort of shortcut where they just copy me or don't do their own research .. in the long run this will fail because you never learn yourself and can't solve any problems that come up.

The one that really gets me is Keyword Research and Building Sites.

Keyword Research is really over-rated in my opinion when it comes to Amazon - yeah check if something has traffic - but we are choosing things that buyers search and would buy in 24 hours - that's alot different than say researching Adsense where you got to look for $1 + and traffic. There are thousands of variations find a product you know something about and get to work.

Sites : simply go to BHW Download Theme Section - get yourself a free premium theme - customize it to the best of your ability - add your buying pieces and your content - then move onto Seo. If your following my ideas then don't waste your time with base WP installs. Many of the sites PM'd to me to look at- look like crap and will never sell .///// this is a Long Term Business so treat it the proper way and it will treat you the proper way with Sales ... there are very few shortcuts with Amazon.

Goodluck.

Hi Danny, reading this thread inspired me to build an Amazon affiliate site. However, as i have zero experience at any of this i rushed into things a bit and didn't really understand keyword research etc when choosing my niche. I now realise it is going to be very difficult to rank the site based on the keywords i have chosen as the competition is very high. I'm a bit stuck with what to do next.. maybe i should cut my losses and start over? Sorry not really a pertinent question i know but any advice? How long before you know a site isn't going to cut it?
Thanks

Don't panic on Keyword Research

just start changing your targeted Keywords to buying keywords no need to scrap the site :

eg Green Frogs main keyword

What is the most popular green frogs for kids
How Do I care for green frogs
what are the most popular accessories for green frogs
where can I buy flies for my green frog
how long will a green frog last
what is the best brand of green frog to buy
are green frogs safe to buy for my child

Just start adding content targeted at answering questions people would ask when they are interested in the topic.

Then Sell The Popular Keyword and Accessories -- probably you will just sell accessories starting out but over time as your site gets older you will sell the main keyword as well.

To Go Further

How Do I Care For Green Frogs ? - well to properly care for Green Frogs so they live a long Happy life you need 1. xxx 2. xxx 3. xxx 4. xxx

insert some text links and explain everything the best you can - maybe make a YouTube Video or something - then tweet the post - or post on a FB account - or bookmark it as well.

Thanks for the tips Danny! Inspired by you I took action and built three Amazon sites. Two of them are still lacking in google positions. But the one I opened on Monday was added to SERPs in Tuesday and guess where? To the first page of Google (at least when Googled from my location)! That was done without any links back to it.

Again thanks for your inspiration! It's great that you share your knowledge with us beginners. I just have one question for you: what do you think about getting links from Fiverr? Many gigs tell that they are panda & penguin safe. What's your take on this?

If I was you I would not buy any links for the first 2 months - just focus on your content and some very basic link building.

+ bookmark the sites and posts in Jumptags / Digg and other large sites
+ create a twitter account / FB account and just post the links to the site / content every so often
+ submit 1 article to the major article directories about your topic
+ submit a PR that your site has just launched and it has all the latest information about XXXX and XXXX accessories.
+ submit to the statistics sites
+ make a simple video about your main product and accessories and load to youTube.

and that's all I would do for a brand new site .. (this is more than I ever did - but with the new Google you got to be more careful)

after 2 months then I would start linkbuilding to everything you created and content ... obviously slowly at first.

Fiverr --- just remember you get what you pay for

This is designed as Long Term Income so keep adding content and answering people's questions more than bombarding your site with too many links ... just keep it natural.... as your site ages to 6 months 9 months etc - then increase your link building.

Around the 2-3 month mark you should be getting Sales and traffic should start being consistent -- and hopefully grow from there.

If your following this thread - and have just recently started with Amazon - please post your feedback - so other people can get a better feel for how they are doing compared to you. Maybe also how aggressive you are in LinkBuilding vs My Suggestion to just go a little more slowly.

Great thread, been following from start heres my story.

I started my first review site in Feb, by the beginning of June it was making around $150-$200 a week. I was really chuffed, then on the 24th June the dreaded message in my webmaster tools NOT the unatural links notice though this one said,
Dear site owner or webmaster of my site.com/,
We've detected that some of your site's pages may be using techniques that are outside Google's Webmaster Guidelines.

Site totally de-indexed not just a penalty, so i assumed it was maybe to many key words in the reviews and articles, had been using the WP SEO Automation plugin h1,h2,h3, underling bolding and italics.

The site has a mixture of review posts and blog pages with articles. So i went in removed the plugin, removed all the h1,h2,h3 underling bolding and italics, reduced the keyword down on the page. Removed all the Amazon links just leaving 1 call to action button.

Sent in a reconsideration request, got the reply on Friday they still say the same, pages may be using techniques that are outside Google's Webmaster Guidelines. What the hell! So now i'm in the proccess of re-writing all the reviews and post and will try again, don't want to give up on this site as it was a good earner.

Luckily at the begining of June i had started building 2 more review sites, they have made a couple of sales but it's early days for them hopefully in a couple of months they will be generating the same revenue as the de-indexed site.

For backlinking on the de-indexed site i was submitting articles to high PR web 2's and social bookmarking sites using many different anchor text linking to internal pages, then building link piramids to the web 2's using Wiki's article sites etc all with varied anchor text.

Just wish Google would actually say exactly what they don't like about the offending pages.

Fernando - seems like you had a really good idea of how to drive your project forward the first time - so hopefully after lessons learned - Take 2 proves to be even better .. best of luck.

fernando1954:

That sucks! Really wish Google would tell what's wrong with your pages - not just a sketchy message that we de-indexed your site HF!

What was your SERP position when you were doing 150-200 a week?

Danny:

I think you mentioned not caring about conversion rates but is there any estimate you could give what are the conversion percentages with an average amazon site? I'm very curious about this.

Unstable I mentioned this before :

Long Term Average is 8-10 % but day to day it varies from 5% - 25% ... the reason it varies is Amazon reports tend to underestimate and overestimate Clicks on some days - and then they correct it in a few days later.

When I said I didn't care he was asking me about what % of Sales are products I tried to sell and what was other stuff people bought. As I replied I'm not so concerned by that - I am more concerned with tracking Seo Rankings and what sort of content ranks better ..... as my project is done via Seo - so knowing those is more valuable to me. Also I look at how much time is spent per site vs site return so I know what to concentrate my efforts on new sites.

Cheers

What kind of IM you use,
Forum Marketing,Guest Blogging, PPC, Banners, Social Media? If you are using just plain SEO, what when google updates again? wont all be lost?
