Amazon Solution for California?

I'm in California and wanted to setup a p.o box in another state and have it forward to my California address. Has anyone tried this yet? Or find another way to get your account back?

CA has things rigged with their LLC's in an attempt to prevent people from dodging state income tax.

Maybe ask family member from out of state or just move to Vegas

you can get a po box and a street address in Oregon. Oregon has no state sales taxes (so they will never go after Amazon)

They will also forward your mail, or open and scan it electronically for you to view online.

Move or incorporate in another state.

It's a shame that the lil guys are getting targeted with these laws when huge companies like GE can get away with paying no Federal taxes. The net gain for many of the states proposing these laws will likely be far less then they anticipated.

I think I read somewhere that not a single penny has been collected by states that have adopted this law. Companies like Amazon, Fatwallet, etc. just move and cut ties with affiliates.

To be honest it sucks but they have to go with what the board tells them, Amazon has to look at how much Aff are pulling in for them in CA and how much in state taxes they are going to have to pay out and weigh the two and all scenarios involved with each.


I keep reading and hearing how AZon keeps cutting out aff's in certain states to avoid taxes that is really messed up for the guy and companies that work hard on IM and then poof get cut out all of a sudden. Azon should come up with a resolution for the guys and gals working hard to being them in revenue some how and not cut them loose just because of what state they live in...


I would suggest incorp. your company or have a po set up in other state if you do not want to outsource anyone.

If you want a sure setup and dont want to run the risk of getting slammed later on you can always employ someone, BHW member, family member, law firm in other state. to set up shop in state for you.

To start LLC here in FL where we live it is like 155$ and that it your company is good to go. just get FEi# and apply for resales cert. (all free) and you have all the proper docs to get started in other state. Many companies have licenses in every US state so that they are able to operate freely in the US without any restrictions such as Amazon is doing to af mark's now...

Ive recently setup another account with my old NY address and payment is still to my biz checking in Ca and it seemed to have worked. However come to think of it after the fact, I may run into some trouble later on when I have to file tax returns, since there will be a 1099 from amazon. So I'm worried that this plan of mine will actually not workout and that the great(broke) state of Ca will come after me for the sales taxes eventually. Perhaps the best way to do this would be a physical move to another affiliate friendly state.

It's a big joke here in CA. I accidentally open my Amazon aff account and it says it's closed.

I keep planning on selling those sites that were earning...maybe I'll get around to it one day.

A long shot might be to use squidoo lense.

They split the Amazon 6% referral difference to 2% per sale for them and 4% for you.

Some say that Squidoo is making a comeback by dropping a ton of spammers to get back in Google's good graces.

I am not into that at all so this is really just a question. Why would they come after you? You are not the seller. You will own income tax as usual but the sales tax has to be collected by sellers. If you were responsible for paying it, Amazon wouldn't be severing ties with you - it would be your decision whether to keep working with them for lesser earnings.

That's sounds good and I might take that route, I guess I'm just worried about when tax season comes around and I file as a California resident.

anyone know anything about taxes and how that would work. If I lived in California and told Amazon I lived in another state. I have family in Oregon that I'm thinking about doing that with.

This Amazon thing is about Amazon having to collect SALES TAXES on things a merchant (you) based in California sells and thereafter has to pay the State of California.

This has nothing to do with your "income tax". Your earnings are your earnings regardless if they are on a W-2 or 1099. You pay State and Fed tax less business deductions.

Now here is the caveat .... if you pretend to operate a business in another state i.e. Oregon and don't live there the following can happen if caught.

1. You may have to pay the State of California all sales tax out of our pocket
2. Charged with a felony for fraud
3. Have to pay income tax on your business income in Oregon
4. You can have a corporation in another state while you live in Cali but they view that out-of-state corp as a "foreign corp" and charge huge lump sum fees every year to do so.

Anybody else chime in if I am wrong

I agree with jonnyquest. You can move to another state and do business, but the problem comes when you sell more than $600 and have to file a 1066.

Guess we have to find another route...or affiliate.

My account in CA got shut down-- eventually I switched over to Skimlinks (www.skimlinks.com) and just replaced the user id in all the links. This ended up being the easiest way to fix all the links at once, plus Skimlinks has alot more merchants.

I am not associated with Skimlinks, by the way, at all. Just heard about them through a friend.

I read somewhere that CA can now use Amazon as an affiliate - Not sure though but you could give it another try.
