Amazon in Poland - Scandal

Few years ago, Amazon has opened few packing centers in Poland. They have offered good salary, especialy in rural area, where people have usualy problem to find a job. They have hired few thousands of people. After years, things have changed. Amazon has started to use his position in rural area and introduced new methods of people managment:

Some methods:

security - personal revision like police, every time worker is going to break, personal revision
you cannot get your own watch, mobile, clothes with pockets, cigaretes, anything to work place, you can get your own storage for...shoes

hard work - fast moving 30-50kg boxes for 12 hours to get know that you have made 30% of standard and cut your salary

12h/6 days - very white light, noise and air condition, max 15 minutes break

New brilliant method - "control belt", to messure your time in storage, toilet or dinner room... and use electricity on you when you work slow! (SICK!) ...

People from rural area cannot resign because it's not UK or France where they can get social benefits for doing nothing. No job in region and they have to work in Amazon.


I am writing here to tell everyone, especialy from USA, that Amazon is not wonderful high tech company.

Never worked in this place but I wish them to kick out from Poland. I hope it will happen soon because investigation has started. It's hard to prove because no photos allowed in their storage centers but... who knows. It would be big sensation in IM & business world.

I sympathise to an extent but those people will be replaceable by robots in the not too distant future, as soon the the technology is capable and cheap enough, those people will be without a job.

But at the end of the day, as long as I get FREE next day delivery, I am happy (unfortunately my deliveries always get fucked up - bring on the robots and drones I say).

Slavery 2.0 ... this is the dark side of those big brands...just like Apple...they use the same method in China...

You want to see what Eastern European job agencies and labour have done to the same jobs in the UK. But that's a different story.

Not so soon, hmmm in Amazon ... soon. However we have thousands of jobs where robot cannot do anything without AI.

I don't want. We are calling people who went to UK, "loosers". Seriosly, only low educated people migrated to UK. Results in Poland? Safer streets, I can go to shop every hour, even 2 am. I don't want. We are calling people who went to UK, "loosers". Seriosly, only low educated people migrated to UK. Results in Poland? Safer streets, I can go to shop every hour, even 2 am. That was not my point. The majority of Polish people I've worked with have been lovely people.

It's just that now British people become disposable, and are often told so in shite jobs. Because they can be replaced by Eastern Europeans who will graft for £7 a hour, because they think it's fantastic money when they first arrive in the UK. Then it's a cycle, they get bored and tend to leave.

The agencies bring in the next cycle of people who think £7 A hour is great.

Yeah so lazy that people had to emigrate to the UK. So lazy that it's the Brits who had the shite country?

Yeah I remember the days where we all sat round in our own shit till half of Europe turned up on our door step.

Why would the "hard workers" need to leave their own countries to work somewhere else?

I mean if we were all so lazy, there would be fuck all in the UK, going off that logic.

NOT POLITICS, JUST HISTORY

UK was strong because British Empire. Even now you have benefits from old empire. It's little going down now and you have results like sold Jaguar or Aston Martin... to India. "Hard workers" moved to UK because strong currency. Money price can be regulated by your central bank. UK is strong exporter, so high currency price was perfect for your whole economy.

When GBP costed 7x PLN and 3x euro, then nothing strange that you had an invasion.
You could buy a house in Poland, for 1 year earnings in UK, house a lot bigger and with higher standard than in UK.
300k GBP house? Here was bigger, better for 300k PLN (42k GBP in good times)

Now things little changed and imigration stopped. GBP is not so strong, you have bigger life costs, so it's better to work here. Result is the same.

UK has made lot of wars and it is really old and big country. I`m from Lithuania and my country is shity becouse of goverment.
We are pore and our government makes new laws about alcohol drinks. From 2018 we can buy alcohol
only from 8 to 20 hour and on sunday from from 10 to 15 hour. Or you can get 8 years jail sentence for smoking weed joint.
my country have mormons in government for decades people need to emigrate, as money it is just not enuf for living.
As for Poland I don`t understand why they emigrate, as they have minimum wage nearly 500 euros, but points is that they
produce lot of stuff and have a zlots so prices are very cheap in that country. In Lithuania after euro we have 350 euros minimum
wage in month, but prices are same like in UK. I pay rent for my flat 310 euros in month. But our government say prices
are getting lower and we live good.

I like Poland government as they care for their people our government is theft government. When we were occupied by russians, when everything changed all people who ruled whit russian occupation got inside Lithuanian new government. Even there is lot of leads about our president that she worked with KGB in that time, but no one cares, she whos president 12 years.

Average salary in Poland:
in 2004 - 2332,17 PLN, when migration started and 3mln Poles went to UK^^ (560,517421 Euros)
in 2018 - 4635 PLN (1 118.30937 euros)
However, there are still milions of people who are working for 560 euro (minimal). From the other side, you can earn more in IT here than in UK.
Salary for 5-10k euro is not weird. You need to be specialist with big knowledge and have some skills. Java programmers makes huge here.

The grass is always greener on the other side. Try living in the UK as a single person on the minimum wage. Quite simply, it isn't possible.

In a well regulated free market like the US, with lots of competition, it seems like the reasonable thing to say.

But I can tell you from first hand experience that it's not so simple elsewhere. Sometimes the only place to work in is shit and there's nothing you can do, it's basically slave labor.

I do feel sorry for them, but it doesn't help it, you know?

I lived in Uk one years and yes it is simple. If you don't have job, job center will gonna give you benefits and pay rent for you, if you need glasses or documents, government will gonna give to you. So lot of Uk people live from benefits. I knowed 5 english dudes, one whos in jail 12 years after he got out he got illness benefits that whose more than minimum wage and after that he painted some houses for money. In my country if you don't have job, job center will gonna give you 100 euros in month and they will gonna put you in any shities job, for like picking potatoes for 200 euros 10 hours in day. If you will gonna not accept it they will gonna kick you out of job center and all your benefits will disappear.

Uk it is good country and you can live real good life if you have brain, but I did not like it as there is to many bad forenders so I got back home. But as this point I love my country and it is grass greener, so I just close my eyes and work on my projects to make my own money as my country system is is not working.

Maybe... it should be a motivation for IM people. "Do your work perfect to not land in Amazon storage"
