Amazon + Facebook Experiment

Hi gang,

I decided to do a little experiment with my amazon affiliate links the other day. Basically, I have a FB page which has interesting products and DIY(Do-it-yourself) picture tuts etc. It only had 62 likes on it and I said why not post an interesting product and boost the post by spending a little.

I went with "hair chalk set" (temporarily colors hair) for girls since I saw groupon is adding a whole bunch of deals on this. Anyway, found a good picture with a girl who has colored hair and chalk set next to it. My post said ->

I filtered on USA and women aged from 18-50. I picked the $10 option which estimated around 5,500 - 10,000 reach.

Here are the results:

Paid Reach: 4130
Organic Reach: 510
Post likes: 18
Comments: 1
Page Likes: 3
Affiliate link clicks: 15

Campaign took 2 days. Day 1 no purchases, Day 2 dunno yet. The product sells for $10.99. so 4% of that would be $0.45 each time someone buys it.

I feel like I definitely wasted a $10. Has anyone else done anything like this? What are your suggestions or opinions?

I've not but I think I will later this week. But I think you should try to build the page based on something else (like giving tips). You can later come back and sell to them.

Hmm, I already branded the page with interesting products & amazing ideas etc. What kind of tips are you talking about? Like home improvement etc.?

This method could definitely work if you choose a different product and do a better job at selling it. The key to success with this method is experimentation and split testing.

This can work if you have a larger audience.Previously only 20% of your post would reach the people's newsfeed.After an update yesterday,pages which users have interacted before have higher chances of reaching user's newsfeed.

So I would suggest,build the page,increase engagement than post offers.

Don't try to sell things to them just yet. Like others have said wait till you have a bigger audience. Maybe for now just show them cool stuff, don't mention "buy here" it looks a lil spammy.

What's are some good ways to bring more organic likes to my page other sharing cool stuff and hoping people will like the content? This will probably take a long time. I already invited all of my friends etc. I am willing to invest some money on it but not sure what's the right method.

What do you mean by that? Amazon has set commission rates. Either 4% or 6% after 7 referrals.

The question is was it worth paying the $10 bucks on facebook? What are the alternatives?

Facebook adds are generally a waste of time and capital... U will get lots of traffic but only a very small percentage will convert

I kept Amazon Links on my site for couple of months... Even clicks where coming in but no purchase... Finally I removed them (Frustrated)

Yup definitely don't waste your money boosting posts on facebook with amazon affiliate links. 2nd test even without affiliate links $15 is wasted. Only 6 likes on great inspiring content.

I have done research on this a month ago. Pretty sure their terms and conditions said it's okay. And I am masking the links using bit.ly. This is also allowed.
