Am I overthinking things regarding referer?

I have a white-hat site that I've been working on for awhile. It's indexed and it's getting some traffic. It has my affiliate link on it.

I'm going to promote it with CL. I'm going to post on CL a bit.ly link to my white hat site.

From there the user can click on my affiliate link, its up to them.

Do I have any problems? Will my affiliate know the traffic is coming from CL? I don't understand the "leak" that I hear about often..shouldn't my affiliate parnter ONLY see my white hat site if they check?

They'll see that it's coming from your site, but if they checked your sites traffic I think they'd be able to see your traffics coming from CL.

I don't think many networks have a problem with CL IF your linking to your site first and not directly to the offer.

Here's what you could do though if you want,

Go to
http://referer.us/hide-http-referer.html

Use your sites URL and pop it in to get a new URL, this should blank the referrer.
Use that as the link you leave on CL. That way if they ever did decide to see where your sites traffic is coming from they shouldn't be able to.

You don't need to use that site for your affiliate links though, that'll just make them suspicious when they can't tell where it's coming from. This above steps is probably unnecessary, I don't think they'd really check or care so long as the leads are legit.

If you provide legit traffic which results in sales, no affiliate will see problems. :)

Thanks , logical and makes sense. I didn't know about referrer.us its much faster than hiderefer.org.

But how could they possibly look at my white-hat site and tell where the extra traffic is coming from?

There are already hundreds of normal backlinks indexed yahoo search explorer.

The additional traffic I am sending is just through a bit.ly link.

I dont see why you would have any problems. Its up to you as to how you get traffic to your site. The problem that networks have is directly putting their link in a CL ad. Many do not allow using CL for advertising their offers directly. That would show CL as the referer (the leak) and that would be against many of their offers conditions. When they click on the link in your site it will show you as the referer.

Yep, exactly what I thought too, but I keep reading on and on, on various threads here, and thru my own internet research, it sounds like that isn't enough, and in certain occasions CL will bleed through as the referer instead of my white-hat site.
