Am I about to get scammed?

I faced similar scenario when I posted my laptop for sale. I had a long conversation before finding him to be fake.

Nigeria/Lagos, guy supposedly in the army buying his cousin a present and story out of this world about not being able to use his ebay account = red flags galore. He s trying to scam you. Not only I would not do business with that person but I would also report him to ebay so hopefully they'll ban him and he won't be able to scam other vendors.

I buy things on ebay and amazon all the time. I pick what I want, I order, I pay with whatever payment method. Once I receive my purchase, I log back in and leave a good review.
Once in a blue moon, something won't fit or is not what I expected so I return and/or exchange.
That's how legit buyers use ebay and amazon. Anyone with a crazy story is not worth the trouble.

I've entertained one of these scams out of pure boredom and what they do is after you give them your PayPal address, they send you a bogus email from "PayPal" stating that you received money but the money can't be released into your PayPal account until you mail item. What was strange and totally not sounding like a scam (being sarcastic) is that the scammer also told me to make sure I checked my spam email folder which is where this email of course landed.

Obviously, when you log into PayPal there are no pending transactions and the email makes it clear that there won't be any pending transactions showing up in your account until the package is shipped.

I played around with the scammer for like a week wasting his time and getting him excited. I even gave him a tracking number of an item that I had actually shipped somewhere else.

I eventually called him out on the scam and asked why he was scamming people. Then he cussed me out and had the nerve to call me dishonest as if I was the one scamming him, lol.

Tell him to send the money upfront via western union... See what he says about that?

Give him the work around, something like...

"Hey my paypal account is (having problems|not working|negative balance|on hold). Can you send the money via (Western Union|Moneypak)?, I will discount you 13% because no paypal fees or ebay seller fees will be charged. Let me know I will ship immediately after payment"

Then you can decide what is morally right, send em the goods. or keep that good ole' Nigerian "419" Money

Hello guys, I am selling an item on Ebay. I received a message from someone asking if I can post it internationally because he is in the army and wants to send his cousin a gift. He said he will pay via Paypal and cover the cost of the delivery. Once he pays me, can he somehow claim his money back? Here is his final message.... . . . I want it posted to Lagos Nigeria through Royal Mail International Signed and I sure the £30 will cover parcel less than 2kg because I posted to same location before. The postal address is verified with PayPal and you will get the postal instruction from PayPal after I pay.

I will pay directly into your PayPal account because I'm having problem with my eBay account as I cannot bid nor use the buy it now option. Get back to me with your PayPal to pay, send it to me here: matt45matt gmail com please correct it

And include your eBay username or item number so that I can identify from whom the message is coming from you. Thanks.
You would be better off sending me the Western Union, that way I can negotiate the terms of your sale in a way that you both can understand.

PayPal is extremely unfair to sellers anyway with their chargeback time frame being so long. The merchant platform
is a den for thieves. Ebay is a no good selling outside like that. Never. Do. It. =)

That’s obviously a scam, a Nigerian one to be exact.

In all honesty, i was 75% there on sending the product. But when I read Nigeria, thats when alarm bells started to ring for me. If he had drop the same pitch and said something like USA, Australia etc, I probably wouldn't have come on BHW to seek a second opinion. Thanks everyone on BHW. You saved me alot of money

Edit.. Ahh I see.. DO NOT EVEN BOTHER sending him the product. Do not accept payment outside of ebay.. ever..

Yes take the money and send an empty box tracking lol the looser will be waiting for the parcel. Just to make sure he is cheating tell him the delivery will cost him 50 instead of 30 if he agrees he def a scam

Oh I see. So can that not be done anyway through Ebay?

If you do send it let me know.
I have some magic beans for sale and can do you a great deal on them.

Just don't. Save yourself the time and effort from the harassment that you are gonna face afterwards.

One of the oldest scam tricks. Just ignore.
