Everything depends on what you are using Ahrefs for, check the following if:
- you want to check the backlink profiles: SEMrush, Moz, and Majestic,
- KW analysis: LongTail Pro, SEMrush, Google Keyword Planner, Search Analytics
 
Both SemRush and majestic works solid, check with the trial versions of these ones and get stick with the one you think good for your work.

Exactly this. These 2 do pretty much all you need.

OP, get a shared account with these 2 in it and you're set.
 
If you don't want to use Ahrefs, you will need two tools to do what it could do. You will need Semrush for keywords and competitor analysis and majestic for checking the backlinks. :)

But Ahrefs's price is worth it.

That's the kind of walking around money you get when you charge people the kinds of monthly fees they do. Makes me think I should get into the analytics game.

Yes I use that also.
I get Ahrefs, Semrush and Cognitive each month at a price that's hard to refuse, not shared / group buy either.

Currently, I don't see any replacement for Ahrefs, and they are improving their features constantly. You probably don't want to hear that, but that's true (if you wanna be on the top seo level). If that's just your hobby, you can play with dozens tools available around the net.

Because that is what IM is all about. Researching keywords, and ranking them. Far far far easier to do if you actually research keywords.

Oh never mind. I see.....
 
you can get ahrefs for free for 2 weeks with virtual CC . that would be a lot cheaper but more work changing every 2 weeks and stuff
 
For finding backlinks and KW research my list is like this:

1) Ahref
2) Semrush
3) Majestic
4) My dogs
5) MOZ
 
In my firm we use Moz for almost year and a half and we are considering to use ahrefs because according our research they are the best.
