All about backlinks

does it still count as a link if you post a comment but you only link to your site through your name and don't put any anchor text links in the comment area? Is it still worth it or do the search engines only care about anchor text links in the comment area?

It has lesser value than a backlink with anchor text. But it still counts, and it's good to have a variation of backlinks anyway to make your backlinks look more legit for Google.

You could always try using the keyword you are trying to rank for instead of your name. Of course, I would only try this on auto-approve blogs because you will definitely be filtered out otherwise.

OK I'm new here (1st post). I started clicking on the links in the OP's post and they all result in a 404 pg. What's up with that?

Well this thread is over 2-1/2 years old. You should expect a lot of the links from that long ago won't work anymore.

But the explanation and information HaRRo gave is still good. You just have to do without some of the examples he gave you.

Hi GreyWolf and everyone. I'm sure you guys know how to check backlinks. I'm using backlinkwatch and google webmaster tools, but the results are not that same and I don't know why. I'm quite confuse right now, so, may I know any free tools that are more accurate for checking backlinks please?

I think the results will always be different between different tools. Just kinda how it all works.

You should look through the sticky threads in the White Hat SEO forum. There's a thread there with a list of various tools and websites for working on SEO. If I remember right there's a few listed for checking backlinks.

Mind My English... Informative post! Any Body Knows on How spammers spam with forums Thread to get backlink. Some get well over a hundred with this technique. Although its a LOW PR Technique. They do look impresive in site Rank.

Please if you guy know how this can work to get a backlink please elaborate more...

Thanks.

Complete newbie here. I feel I delved into the money making ideas too soon, I definitely needed to read this first. Thanks!

Hi guys, while the general info in this thread is still very good, I was wondering if it was possible to update the link list that now is over 2 years old?

I have a website with PR3, and an autoblog that I've just released. If I put a link on my PR3 site, will it boost my PR on the blog?

I'm trying to work out how all this PR works and how much backlinking really effects the pagerank. Does anyone have any idea on this? Any sources? It's all a big mindfuck at the moment. I'm throwing darts through a keyhole.

Simply loving it.

Let me mention that all this should be used with full care and slowly. Don't try to create too many or get penalized

Good post.. But keep in mind that quantitative approach will not work here. First of all focus on the quality back links or they won't help you at all.

I guess it's the same as most things, quality is better than quantity.

This is all new to me but I have read and will be re-reading several times.

Thanks for the info guys !!

Great share. I'll try to go through the list in the beginning of this thread to see which are still active and post it on here soon.

Thank you for this great post. Combined with other threads in this forum I should really be able to work something out. Will definitely check out some of the easy link targets mentioned.

Also fun to see how little has changed over the years, most of the tactics in the opening post still have value.

I was wondering if it matters how I format the URL when dropping my links... should I be doing http://www.mydomain.com, http://mydomain.com, or www.mydomain.com, or does this not matter at all? I have been doing all of them, should I stick to one format or keep using all 3? I did try to search, but try searching for the terms "http://" or "www" in google and see what comes up:cool:... too hard to find any relevant info.

Also, I was wondering if I am commenting on blogs(not using scrapebox or anything, just on my own manually), yahoo answers, etc do I need to change my IP for each comment I leave?

I was also wondering if it's OK to post like 10 comments in a row to yahoo answers or a similar site. If I have a list of answers I want to comment on and leave a link, should I space them apart or is it OK to do a lower number like 5 or 10 in a row, or will google see this as spam?

What about using the same name to post articles on different sites, is that OK? What I mean is, if I am posting an article (or posting in a forum, or anywhere really) is it OK to use the same user name on different sites that link back to my site or will google notice that? I
