Ahrefs DR major update

Why is it useless? You want to build a pbn or get a link from a website with no link juice/0 DR?

This new DR is more accurate. It will make it easier to estimate how much more link juice you need to get ranking above the competition. Also makes it easier to check out whether expired domains are suitable for pbns (which is what I use it for mostly).
Yeah and what DR you are looking for the expired domains nowadays? I have found a decent domains with 1 and 2 DR. But also a fuckload of crappy ones. Still with 1 or 2 DR. I checked the old stats and new ones and domains that had 40 DR before now are down to 1. Same with domains with 20 DR before down to 1. While there is clear difference in the links. So now I either should say fuck it and do not check 1 DR domains or should go thru thousands to find a few gems. This in NO way makes my work easier.. and whats the point of a change if will not help the users, but rather opposite?

Depends on how many pbns you plan on building. I do this just for only one website so this helps me a lot. I have bought a bunch of domains, some of which had dr 40 go to 1. Others with dr 40 drop only to 10. Now i know for a fact that the dr 10 one is worth it so will invest in it as a pbn and I will drop the dr1 site. For my circumstances it helps a lot.

To answer your question, I would say dr4 is my cut off now. Why DR4 you may ask? Well I purchased pbn links from a very reliable seller. The links indexed and showed up in GSC immediately and the average of his sites were DR4. Of course I dont blindly rely on any metric, relevancy of links, domain history, website wide spam links etc still have to be considered.

Of course no 3rd party metrics can beat my own judgment about link quality. The problem is that there are way too many websites/domains to check manually each of them this way. So naturally we rely on tools to help us out. My whole problem with new DR is (or was, as they are fixing now) is that it move perfectly good domains into 0 or 1 DR (I am talking for domains with 30-35 RD, 2-3 do follow links from authority websites, just decent expired domains). Before this domains had 35-40 DR (worth checking), now down to 0 or 1. So I have no way to filter really bad domains (no links worth a dime) from those with some good links - all are shown as 0 or 1. And thats the whole problem.

For those of you that haven't seen what Tim Soulo said about the DR patch that was rolled out 1 hour ago:

Soo... the DR "patch" was just rolled out! Go check your DR now!

:) (in Site Explorer, not on the Dashboard)

Here's how the scale looks like:

DR 0-5: 146,455,043 domains (16 ref.domains)
DR 6-10: 10,322,431 domains (30 ref.domains)
DR 11-15: 5,171,577 domains (44 ref.domains)
DR 16-20: 3,085,066 domains (57 ref.domains)
DR 21-25: 2,499,437 domains (85 ref.domains)
DR 26-30: 2,493,952 domains (137 ref.domains)
DR 31-35: 1,377,630 domains (547 ref.domains)
DR 36-40: 861,493 domains (314 ref.domains)
DR 41-45: 494,599 domains (263 ref.domains)
DR 46-50: 313,324 domains (352 ref.domains)
DR 51-55: 268,988 domains (444 ref.domains)
DR 56-60: 152,985 domains (708 ref.domains)
DR 61-65: 93,021 domains (956 ref.domains)
DR 66-70: 64,713 domains (1,374 ref.domains)
DR 71-75: 64,898 domains (2,789 ref.domains)
DR 76-80: 21,209 domains (6,761 ref.domains)
DR 81-85: 7,368 domains (16,425 ref.domains)
DR 86-90: 3,175 domains (36,811 ref.domains)
DR 91-95: 967 domains (637,650 ref.domains)
DR 96-100: 22 domains (8,891,919 ref.domains)

IMPORTANT: please keep in mind, that DR is not calculated from the raw number of referring domains alone, so these numbers of ref.domains per cluster are just raw approximations. They only serve as a point of reference and not the actual number that is required to reach certain DR score.

*The numbers are rough estimate. Other factors count too.

So its seems 5-15 DR is the area of expired domains, 15 to 50 or so for the auctioned and beyond that are mostly big websites.
note: "The numbers are rough estimate. Other factors count too." :D

I have update here, all my projects slapped -30 in DR, this really does not make sense. Real business sites with decent backlink profiles. The most powerful site dropped -10. I thougt that this update will target fake and low backlink profile sites, but obviously this is not working. DR just became useless :(

Ahrefs DR never was intended to catch spammy backlinks. It counts only the DR of the website, where the link is placed and if is do-follow.

I had my original homepage score return of 51 for a bit. Then back to 23. YET, my inner pages still have the 51 score for DR. WTF?

OK, the new update binged up again the white seo pages a bit but not as it was before. I can also see that some of the competitors pages are rising much stronger now with DA around 80 which scares me - how shall I beat them :S On the other hand, that points me to the resolution why my competitors are ranking better, because before the rank was similar and I just wondered, now I can understand better.

The new, new DA went back up to my old score of 52 and then crept to 57 now. So, I gained. I looked up my local rivals and their DA are like below 3.
