    Arrgh!

I just spent like 20 minutes writing a long, well-thought-out post about my first impressions of the BHW community as a newb. Apparently I tripped something that thinks my post was trying to sell something? Dunno. That's pretty vague, and seeing as this whole site is about selling in one way or another, exactly what kind of language do I need to watch out for???

And considering the number of JV offers in what's supposed to be a lobby, what the heck? Why did my post that has nothing to do with JVs get blocked??!?!!! That's pretty frustrating.

Maybe the keyword is those two letters -- jay vee? Well, that filter needs to be modified! Take a look at how much selling is going on in the lobby!

Actually, "JV" isn't in my original post. I just re-read it (and tried to re-post it) and it's actually pretty innocuous as far as I can tell. Is it about length?!? It's somewhat long, but not obnoxiously so. I'm not stupid, I tried to skim for possibly bad keywords, but didn't see anything very risky. So maybe I can get some tips?

Here's the response I got when trying to post:

"You are trying to post a message that has triggered our moderation system. Double check our rules to make sure you are posting something that is appropriate. We don't tolerate any selling, posting contact information, urls, swearing, giving thanks ect... Please understand this is to protect our community from spammers. Once you have been a member of BHW for a longer period of time this limit will be removed. Thank you!"

Oh wait, "giving thanks"? Part of my post is about THANKING BHW for being so awesome. Here of all places, in the lobby, I cannot THANK BHW or anyone else?!? That is confounding I must say....

The only other thing might be my use of "f'in" .... is that considered swearing???

Maybe we'll see if this post gets filtered too....

No matter where I am on the internet these days. If my response is more than a single paragraph I make sure to type it in word, notepad, or something equivalent, so that that kind of thing doesn't happen.

    Been there too many times.

I'd be happy to PM my post to a mod to see what could be wrong with it. It was intended as a constructive contribution to the community after all. But alas, as a new account holder, I'm not allowed to PM.....

I'm a little stuck here... some help?

Just trying to get ramped up in the BHW community which I think is awesome, by the way.

HA! You can say that again. I do the same thing (well, I usually don't use another editor to type, but before I click "post" or "send" I *ALWAYS* click ctrl-a, ctrl-c!!)

I did that in this case too, so it's not a case of lost typing (I have the text). It's just that I wanted to start contributing, but was blocked from doing so. And I am really having a hard time figuring out why. Seriously, the post was very innocuous....

Imagine what this place would be like if every prepubescent with black hat ambitions could start immediately posting anything they wanted?

Yes the filter is a pain in the ass. Do you really want to be here? A small dab of patience is all it takes, and a little persistance.

Plus, this is a BlackHat forum, and you are here. If a little text filter kicks your ass, what are you going to do when Google starts scrutinizing your traffic. This is a marketing forum. Be creative. Think outside the box.

Also, read the RULES. There's a stickie somewhere that specifically tries to disuade newbies from posting anything. There's a reason for that, and you should read the stickie.

Also, the "Introductions" sub-forum might be a more appropriate place for you to gain the skills to assimilate. No one there but newbs for the most part. You seem pretty cool, but others have been banned before their 10th post for being too aggressive in their efforts at "maneuvering". After about 20 posts all the filter stuff kind of relaxes. Mods pay close attention to people in their first few posts to get some sense of whether or not they are going to be trouble, and if the evidence is clear that they are, they get banned. So breathe. Relax. Read. Do text searches for words that are relevent to your interests and get familiar with that. Learn the personalities here that know something about something you are interested in. Most particularly don't post stupid little posts trying to "fluff-up" your post count. It's a temptation; I've been there. I've also seen people have all there posts reset to 0 as punishment. These Mods are smart & they've seen it all. Consider, they manage a forum chock-filled with rulebreakers, lawbreakers, customs-violators, black hat pirates, anti-social personalities. Hell, worst of all there's even a LAWYER here, and even he's cowed into submission.

So, understand who you are surrounded by, and who's watching you. In 50 or so posts you'll get the feel of it and everything will work out.

    Here's a hint: "Jaay-Vee"

If I didn't care too much, I wouldn't have bothered to ask about it. I'm pretty sure my frustration came across in this thread, but I hope I also made it clear that I understand that there is a good rationale for these kinds of restrictions. Please don't misunderstand what I'm saying (and please use slightly less accusatory tone). I respect the need for rules like this, but I am expressing that it affects people who are trying to make quality contributions as well.

C'mon. I could sit here all day and re-word my post, but I'd rather be reading more helpful BHW posts instead.

I've actually read the rules, the FAQ probably more in depth than 99% of new users ever do. And before you get too uppity telling me to RTFM, re-read your post. "Dissuade newbies from posting anything"??? Uhhh, so how exactly do you propose new users become members of the community then? Whatever point it is you're trying to get across here is offensive and doesn't make any sense.

If I missed a sticky, fine, I'd be happy to read it, but this really doesn't make sense.

I've actually spent well over a month of serious time reading all I can here at BHW before wanting to start posting - so I could educate myself, not post up stupid "please spoonfeed me" posts, etc. I don't mean to get too argumentative, but c'mon, why are you being so harsh to me first?

Alright, thanks for the "pretty cool" comment. I'm sorry if I'm being harsh to you, but you're not giving me too much credit. I know you don't know if I'm clueless or experienced (I'm toward the latter in forum and 'net stuff in general, just not SEO), so actually, I'm pretty sure there's nothing for me to learn in the "Introductions" forum.

Actually, my post relates exactly to that process and the unfortunate pollution it causes on BHW. I figured out what was triggering the filter, so you can go read that thread if you care.

I'll give you the benefit of doubt not having known my behavior before you told me all this, but I'm actually one of the few people who has done all that and more. I've spent numerous 12-15 hour days reading BHW in over a month before I felt like I wanted to start posting. Your tips are common sense to me, and I agree they are exactly what everyone should be doing. I know that's why some of these rules are in place, but in this case, it has also served to frustrate someone (me) who really tried to do things the right way but still got frustrated.

That's actually the point of the contribution/feedback I wanted to make (and now have made). These rules backfire on BHW to some extent and/or the mods aren't harsh enough in penalizing people for making useless posts to increase their counts. Most of the best BHW threads are full of clutter like that that makes it difficult and time-consuming to read.

Yeah, it wasn't anything to do with that - it was a really innocuous synonym for the brown stuff that comes out of your back end..... a word that has been used on mainstream TV for decades now, so I'm a little surprised it was in the filter. Too bad, but problem solved.

(I also had to edit your words to be able to submit my post. :) I think the filter could use some review for some of the rather tame words it seems to contain!)

So, sorry for the long response. I want to stress that I am highly impressed with BHW and only want to contribute in a meaningful manner. I thank you for your reply and hope I wasn't too harsh in response.

I understand I'm currently limited, that's not the point. The point is that the limits are hard to understand and can frustrate someone trying to make a very innocuous post. Nothing spammy about it. Let's stay on topic.

One thing we agree on for sure - peace! ;-)

Welcome to BHW. Too many words. Listen and don't talk. Read and don't post. It is better to remain silent and appear the fool. No one likes newbs. That jumble of words is tedious! Stop trying to make yourself sound important.

Just a little Frat Boy initiation Dude. Go with the flow. Fight it and it gets worse. Focus on the info and how valuable it is. Unless you're very experienced in IM all of your posts should be humble and non-confrontational for a good long while imo. ;)

It IS a hazing, and it CAN get worse. Someone offers you friendly advice when they first meet you, and they are sorry immediately thereafter. What are the chances I'm going to put any effort into trying to be helpful again?

    Hint: Pretty damn low.

Others watch this. Whether they agree with me or not, they see you, they see me, they think about you and where you & I have gone. What are the chances that any of them are going to help you either?

See any positives in this equation for yourself?

Look at the posts. Are we ALL wrong ? Are you the Messiah? Or just another drama queen that gets bored when the focus of attention isn't centered on you, you, you, (Marsha, Marsha, Marsha) and goes away when people wise-up and stop wasting time with you.

It's not that I don't have the patience, it's just that you haven't said anything worth paying attention to. This is a Black Hat forum, and I don't see any money to be made in reading any of your newbish drama. I've given you the only advice you need (which is post less, read more, be patient and when in doubt STFU), and I don't need anything from you.
