After 8 months, I was demonetized

Hi

For 8 months I was quietly earning money on YT. Until yesterday, when the message came.

Our reviewers found that your channel contains the following:

Reused content
Channel uses someone else's content without making changes that add significant value.


I have a nature channel. I edit the films by assembling them from many others, recorded by myself or purchased on sites with paid films with a license, eg Envato.

As a result, I uploaded a new movie on YT, consisting of many others, mine or bought, and with the purchased soundtrack.

I have never received any warnings
I've never had any claims about audio or video.

There is no commentary in my videos, just videos and noises.

What to do to get monetization back?
- Delete videos, enrich them with my comment and upload again?
- Leave videos and edit descriptions to add information about where the recordings come from?

I'm a bit shocked because I bought films and spent a lot of time editing and adding sound.

The fact is that I was buying them under a non-exclusive license. Another user can also buy them and do whatever he wants with them. It's just that I put them together into completely new pieces. Could this be the cause of the problem that some fragments, even though I have licenses for them, are being used by someone else in a completely different film and he was considered the first?

You must add a lot of value to reused video in order to make it more your own. It's easy enough to create your own original content that you shouldn't have to borrow from others. That's the only way that you can ensure that you will be checking all of YouTube's boxes. Otherwise you are taking your chances and you can end up back at square one. You should at the bare minimum add your own voiceover with true factual educational content.

yes, I can generate a license certificate for each purchased movie. But as I mentioned, these are not exclusive licenses. They allow me to use these videos, but can resell them multiple times. As a result, in the future or in the past, some piece of purchased content may appear to someone else.
These are not content from the Internet or YT, but bought in stocks.

I know. But some movies show animals without comment but with the sounds they make. I assume that it is not the audio track that is the problem, but the video image, which unfortunately could repeat itself. So despite the fact that I bought it and have a license, I should still modify it to make it unique for YT? For example, add a scrolling strip with subtitles, make a mirror image of the image, etc.?

Got it. Then the issue is not that you don't have a license but that you and other are all using the same stuff.

Which is the problem. Youtube see's this as a red flag and will automatically flag your content with the "Reused Material" excuse. Not a lot you can do about it but either go 100% with your own content and then reapply in the future and hope that you get accepted for monetization again or you need to find a other way to generate revenue.

Youtube has been like that for the last couple of years and lots of compilation channels and channels that were using the same content got demonetized. They don't care about any of us.
 
just delete the videos, add your comment and upload again.
 
Out of all 200 movies I have I deleted 50 videos. Added some narrative and put 5 movies in the new version to the test. Channel accepted in YPP. I waited 2 days from re-application to approval. Thanks for advice.
 
Narration or commentary usually helps in any reuse situation so if you can transform the videos that way you might be safe but it sucks with YouTube when they demonetize without warning. It would be better if YouTube changes their demonetization policy and give us a select amount of days to make changes instead of completely taking our monetization privileges away completely.

My channel was demonetized on Monday and I've been contacting them but they're giving me the run-around. Do they really get people to manually check your videos and if they do how many days?

Possible, but out of 200 videos, I deleted 50.
I left a couple of videos that are compilations because they make great money. And I got monmetization again.
It seems to me that scale may be the problem. It is important that the vast majority of videos on the channel do not break the principle of content reuse.

I also have another guess. I made one of my videos in native language, and after some time I uploaded a slightly modified version in Spanish. Maybe not my licensed builds were the problem. Only one movie that was 99% coincident with another one of mine, the language differed.

Problem solved anyway. Monetization is back. And what I removed I will successively upload as modified.

I also wrote to them on Twitter. The first line answered the same day as I was asking the more difficult questions they said they had to pass it on to another team. Ultimately, the answer came that I have 30 days to make corrections.

But I looked through a lot of posts on their profile and there were cases where they got the monetization back on the user in 1 day.

When you got remonetized, did you wait all 30 days to reapply or were you able to get somebody to review your channel sooner? I just got a reuse channel demonetized the other day but I got demonetized for having content deemed too sexual because I have all of my compilation videos transformed with narration over them. I was thinking about keeping those videos on there when it's time to reapply because they're starting to populate well but I don't know if they will still see the videos as too sexual as I don't plan on changing the content in them.

The discussions on twitter were unsuccessful, I waited 30 days to apply again. And the decision came after 2 days.

Thanks for letting me know because so far I feel like the Twitter discussions are going to be unsuccessful. I think it only works for successful channels where their fanbases annoy them and force them to review earlier than smaller channels. It feels like I'm going to have to wait 30 days but at least they reviewed it in only 2 days so that's what I'm going to do.

Insist more. Tell them you believe that your channel has been wrongly demonetized. Write things like this and they will have the team review it manually
