I want to first off say thank you all! I've been an avid reader of BHW for the past 3 years.

Next, I apologize if this is in the wrong area. This is my first post.

I'm currently working on a project with a partner of mine to develop an auto buying service. The domain name and brand is extremely catchy, however, the industry is hard to crack. Especially with competition like TrueCar, CarGurus, etc... We started this campaign 3 months ago and are developing this as we go along. This is a passion. Not a one time crack at money.

How would we go about making this profitable?

We currently offer doing the entire car buying process for you. Researching multiple dealers (within 50 - 75 miles max), finding every rebate and offer you qualify for, negotiating price over internet & phone, researching your trade thoroughly (kbb, nada, bb, etc...), and consulting on the front end and back end of the deal (financing, rate, etc...).

Our traffic is just now starting to grow from organic traffic and adwords.

Should we start an affiliate service?

To explain more, we offer all of this for $99.99. Currently, we are running a promo for $69.99. The website is well designed and now my partner and I feel we just need the traffic.

Should we start an affiliate service of %40 commission on every sale?

For instance, if we become popular, 100 orders a month would equal $9,900 (excuse me, $6,900 currently.) Of the revenue, we pay $2,760 and keep $4,140.

Then we have affiliates marketing for us and doing all of the ad work we need.

Is this an avenue we should take? Or, what directions should we take? There are so MANY ways to approach internet marketing and we want to be sure we are doing this RIGHT. We are talking about a multi-billion dollar industry here.

P.S. We have the process down on negotiating with dealers, we have already received guaranteed quotes from multiple different states over the internet. The one difference in our business model is taking an up-front fee from the customer. Instead of saying "fair deal," we guarantee a deal that smokes the competition.

MODS, if I've posted this in the wrong area please move it or I'll re-post. Also, I'll monitor this post every day on replies AND also let you guys know of our progress.

Thank you sincerely for feed back and suggestions,

    -Hasty644

Affiliate marketing should definitely be a part of your marketing strategy but I would advise against depending upon it exclusively given that very few of the many applicants you get would actually be driving buyer traffic to your website.

    sashablack,

We're operating the entire United States. One zip code provided by the customer and we are off to work.

So is this only for new cars for purchase or used cars? Have a site I can take a look at? I might want to advertise on your site, since I am in the automotive business!

Start an affiliate marketing program, but that shouldn't be your primary promotion strategy. Adwords and SEO should drive the highest amount of traffic to your site. Consider starting a blog where you can target low competition buyer keywords with new posts to attract customers. Also, you can tweak your ad campaigns to increase your conversion rate so you spend less on ads.

Sorry for the delay guys. The website is located at autoget. .net We are charging an all in one premium for buying your car. An up-front charge to give a complete package on buying your car. Trade, financing, and the final price. Believe me, there are challenges.

The affiliate program would consist of a 40% return of the $99.99 fee. The strategy behind it is to have multiple people building our traffic for us.

We have been using adwords and SEO. Concerning the blog, yes! That is planned but not implemented, yet.

Yes, new and used cars. It does not matter. With our service we contact the dealers for you.

Well, you will have more options in sending potential buyers to your affiliate programs if you create a website to promote your affiliate program. Make your website content relevant to your niche. Visiting other professional websites of your niche is a good way to get some ideas on how to design your website.

If you have an affiliate program it would be hard to implement. I think a lead generation model might be better off for you.

Even if you have an affiliate program, you should start to build your own sources of traffic. Without your own sources of traffic - and the knowledge necessary - you will be dead in the water in an online business, you can't rely on the benevolence of affiliates to send you traffic.

Trying to acquire affiliates while you are not making any sales and you are not an established brand is also a though sell. If you are not able to sell yourself, why would an affiliate have faith that he can sell you?
