Hey guys, not sure where to post this. I'm looking to start an offshore web hosting business. I know about marketing, logo design, web design etc. I assume some people start small when getting into this business?

Offshore reselling? This whole reseller phrase really confuses me because when I look around most offshore sellers have packages for like 80gb of storage...how can anyone start a reselling business with this amount of space? I know most people that want dedicated services or VPS's are looking for 1tb etc. or am I getting the wrong end of the stick here?

I thought becoming a reseller for a certain company would involve setting up your own frontend website with packages based on what the hosting company you're reselling has and thus your customers buy these packages which then sends the order through the backend to your reseller?

Would really appreciate any advice and tips on venturing into to this field.

Most companies do not resell the hosting...basically, you can purchase a VPS/dedicated server and install a control panel on it such as cPanel and then connect it to a billing system (the most common for hosting companies is WHMCS) which will automatically create the accounts for you once someone makes the purchase. This is for shared hosting. It is a bit similar in terms of the setup if you wish to offer VPS hosting. I would suggest you go with this option as you would have more control, but it will be a bit more expensive initially as you would have to rent the whole server. Some solutions like Digitalocean or Vultr (not offshore tho) will also work as they're scalable which means you can add space whenever you need it, so the initial cost wont be much in that case, but you would still have to pay for a license for cPanel and WHMCS.

Reseller hosting is just overselling. That is your margin... You're overselling the available disk space to turn a profit.

Your upstream provider is also overselling the reseller packages.

Web hosting has too much competition and very little money. You should do complete research before getting into such a business.
