Adsense journey with an authority website

Considering your results this is no longer an "adsense journey" since it only makes up 10% of your results. The only thing I learned about here about adsense is that it is shit for monetization and better to use affiliate programs anyway.

Not blaming you for that, but it's just how the journey went and maybe time to close it because it digressed beyond relevance of your original post. You can open another thread with a more relevant title and simply reference to this one in your intro.

In one sense, yes. In another sense, no. It's true that affiliate has delivered more for me but from what I've seen it's still doable to grow the AdSense revenue quite a bit. It's a matter of leveraging traffic to the website and not so much on buyer intent.

During the spike the last month I got $20 daily from AdSense. Now, if I had 100-150k visitors a month I would most likely make 10x the amount that I do now. And that traffic doesn't have to be something selling but more informational.

Hey man,

How did the previous month go for you? :-)

I hope you will keep on updating.

All the best,
Zibi

you have good Adsense income for your views ..... nice.

Hey there!

October Update

It's been a pretty calm month in terms of content and work. Real-life things has gotten in the way (work etcetera) but not going to let that affect the website too much. I've also seen that we're getting more and more natural backlinks each month: it would seem we're a credible source (derp?).

Google Analytics
I did not expect the traffic to increase due to last months news-incident which spiked the traffic heavily for a couple of days in August.

Earnings
AdSense - $182
Affiliate - $1005

Total: $1186. So close to 10 000 SEK per month (Swedish currency and one of my goals).

Next month?
Currently added 3 articles this month so far (2 articles total last month and a lot of content tweaks) and plan is to reach 100k words this month. On-top of that I've finally taken the thumb out of my arse and started prepping for a website overhaul which means more functionality, a better design and overall clearer plan moving forward.

Please mates I need help on getting the adsense code

Amazing journey
Wishing you all the best
I got lots of points form your guidance and experiments.

Best Regards !

@GeorgeCarl I would try removing Adsense.

Pretty sure a lot of the ads showing on your site are promoting similar stuff to what your affiliate is selling/giving, so you may be losing a conversion for a click on adsense, which pays a lot less.

Three posts up!

I manage the ads via the Ad Review Center to make sure there's no conflicting ads. I use ads quite sparingly as well so it's only showing up twice per page. But thanks for the suggestion!

Hey there.

I personally don't use Amazon as my affiliate network since they're not (yet) active in Sweden. Although chances are that I might launch something soon to capitalize on their entry to the Sweden market.

My best guess would be that the on-page is exactly the same as any other website. My own on-page merely consists of a prior keyword research and then making sure that titles, meta-description, headlines are relevant towards the keyword I'm targeting. Other than that I usually look at long-tail variants of the primary (and secondary) keyword to mention in the article.

Alright! I've been a bit lazy with the updates but alas!

November Update
November brought snow to Sweden and I've been bunkring myself up in my apartment with Christmas lights amass. On-top of this one of the affiliates (the one that has earned me the most money) changed their revenue model until Jan 2018 which means that I'm getting a measly $13 per conversion instead of $130 before. Despite this other affiliates have prevailed and the revenue hasn't really decreased which really surprised me.

Traffic
Traffic has been steadily increasing albeit it has slowed down compared to June / July where I consistently hit +100 %.

Content
Currently at 90,000 words and 78 articles. I have another 5 articles that are unpublished right now, just putting the finishing touches on them before releasing.

Earnings
Adsense - $140 - Slightly lower than before but I've removed 40% of the ads via Google Adsenses Adbalancer.
Affiliate - $1010 - Despite one of the affiliates changing their revenue model (until Jan 2018) it still haven't affected the earnings too much.

Total: $1150

glad to see growth in articles. keep it up. I recommended you to detch adsense in favour of your lead business before, it will improve your site speed tremendously and make enough room to expand your affiliate channels. but you know best what needs doing. wish you the very best of luck :)

Oh boy!

Christmas has passed and so has January and lots of things has happened!

The past months I've been working heavily on revising old content and writing news articles since I'm aiming to get included into Google News shortly. Currently at 100,000 words and 90 articles.

Traffic has increased a lot and currently around 50k monthly compared to November which had around 30k monthly.

Revenue

AdSense - $275 - Seen a lovely upswing due to the traffic.
Affiliate - $1345 - Had some major changes in some of the programs which has resulted in some dropping /10 of the revenue has mentioned in November. Because of this I've looked at monetising it through other programs which has been a success so far.

Total: $1625 - Best month so far by far.

Plan

Writing more content as always, aiming on revising the menu which has been a mess, getting included into Google News and aiming for some more high-value keywords (think like "What's the best car insurance?").

Just as a side-note: I've been working on "re-releasing" some of my previous content which didn't perform in the rankings. By just changing the permalink, title, header and changing some in the content I've seen some great improvements.

Most likely going to go through around 30 articles to make sure they're updated, there's a lot of potential.

Do you still have the site? Would love to know how it is going now 6 months on.

Still working on the website. I've ran the case study on multiple websites and had more feedback at other places hence why I haven't updated this.

Currently up to around 60k monthly visitors and June the revenue reached $3 700 compared to around $3 400 in May. Average increase in revenue has been at around +$500 per month albeit I am going for $10k by the end of the year.

Thought I'd update it a bit more since I've gotten some PMs.

Traffic the past 6 months
As you can see there's been some spikes in March which is due to a national event that we're ranking #1 for on most terms. Traffic is now averaging around 50-60k a month compared to 40k from when I last posted.

Traffic whole of June compared to last year
This should hopefully explain the increase we've had from last year.

Ahrefs Organic Search tab
As you can see there's been a stable increase every month. The Position heatmap should should show the authority of the website with most terms being top 10.

Current focus
Due to the authority of the website I've gone for more money keywords. Think "pay day loans" hard. And actually succeeding with content alone so far. The website is regularly getting backlinks from major news publications so haven't had the need to build anything myself.

Content-wise I haven't grown the website so much but most of the work is done with improving older articles and making them rank on-top of making sure the CTAs are converting. For those wanting to number crunch it's 100 articles and 113 491 words in total. Which means that the average article is 1130 words. In reality it's likely much higher (I'd say 2500 words) due to some news posts being 200-300 words only dragging down the average.
