Adsense journey with an authority website

Just a quick update:

Earned the same amount as the last full month in 11 days in August. Currently creating a new theme for the website from scratch, going to make things a lot easier going forward. Also did some keyword research so got a content plan for the next weeks.

Hi George,

Great journey you got going on here :) I too have an authority site but taking it slow due to time issue. It currently sits at around 420avg clicks as per search console. (Mostly from US). Would love to connect with you on Skype or something :)

Cheers

Absolutely, just PM me.

August Update

The website has grown once again. This month I decided to launch a new website design and after half of the month decided not to push it because despite it being more flexible didn't really bring the website anything new.

+ 2182 words (2 slightly bigger posts and a small news item)

I keep focusing on content and yet, laziness is your biggest enemy. That needs to change, no more zero days.

The stats

kNStUlN

47% growth this month which is on par with the previous months the website has had. There's a mix of evergreen content and also targeted some high volume keywords (for 2018) that's seasonal and so far they are around 1-3 in position for these. We'll see what happens with those when we get there.

Income
  • AdSense - $100 ($85)
  • Affiliate - $330 ($90)
previous month in parentheses
Total: $430 compared to $175 last month. Which is an increase of +245%!

I had a nice bump in income for affiliate but one of the reasons for this is because I got lucky and converted for something hard which gave us +$137 in one fell swoop.

So what is the aim for the next month? Well content of course! I would like to aim for 10 000 more words this month and also figure out a good content strategy for Christmas season. As I said earlier it's an financial niche so while information isn't the easiest there's a lot of opportunity to cash in. Sadly writing about "Save money for your kids" isn't' as sexy as "Top 10 blenders you definitely need this Christmas!". Ideas?

Also, fun fact:

This is what happens when there's major breaking news regarding a specific subject that we've written about. Most likely going to enjoy 2k+ sessions the coming days.

Great going, George. One of my old KW got ranked again, saw a good increase here too

This was actually really interesting and satisfying to follow. You're doing an amazing job! A proof that content is the king. Many people try to invent something, bypass some steps and in the end they stay almost in the same place, wasted tons of money and time.
When in reality, everything is pretty simple and straightforward. It's putting all your effort and focus in creating high quality content (not that it's easy, but it's for sure trusted method).
Thanks for sharing your journey, waiting for more!

Content is always going to be king but luckily I'm not targeting a niche with heavy competition. Content is one thing but for some niches you can't really do without links. But - I'm getting natural links now from people citing me as a "valid source" so at least I got that going. ;)

Hi, I love to follow your journey and congratulation for your $1000 hit :)

Finally time for the September update.

Traffic
Traffic has kept going up. Due to some major news in the media about a specific bank we had an influx of traffic for three days which boosted the numbers a bit.

Content-wise
I'm up to 83 000 words and 70 articles.
Due note that I've spent the month on revising the old content (rewriting bits, removing, adding etc).

---

Revenue
What most of you are interested in I assume. It's been an amazing month and I doubt I'll reach the same numbers next month even if that's what I'm aiming for.

AdSense - $160 USD
Affiliate - $1000 USD

Total: $1160 USD.

My goal has been to reach $1230 in December (which means 10 000 SEK in Sweden) and it seems definitely doable now if it continues like this.

I'm not running any Amazon affiliate or similar programs. What I offer is services, loans etc. That means that a single conversation can be hundreds of dollars. Last month I had 29 sales which means that the avg. sale has been $35 a pop.

---

Plan now is to continue with revising the content on-top of doing some more keyword research and building new articles as well.

Questions?

Congratulations, you are one of the 1% who achieves the goals they put to themselves. smile :)
Now, be happy and all BUT KEEP GOING. Because you and i knows what is better than 10,000 SEK. Its 20,000 SEK , 30,000 SEK ... I believe at this point you need to scale your service and minimize your adsense reliance, margin wise, it's not as good as your lead business, think about that when making new content. SO, set a new milestone and keep us posted champ. Congrats :)

Thanks for your comment!

Still not at 10,000 SEK sadly but getting close. ;) The website should have the potential to earn $10,000 / monthly so it's just a long grind until then. Right now the focus will be like always: revise the previous content to make it better and add new articles continuously.

Just today I created a shortcode to handle currency exchange rates which means I can have the latest rates presented on one of my articles. It's not just text-revisions that are getting fixed.

Your journey is inspirational. I recently from the inspiration gotten on Bhw, built a site 7 days ago that is already getting about 300clicks per day avg.

My problem right now is ad placement. Do tell. What banners do you use and how do you place them? Thanks

Are you using AdSense? The best banner placement for be has been in-content ones, 336x280 and then response ones at the beginning and the end of the article. If you're running AMP make sure to implement ads as well else you will lose out a lot of your potential earnings.

Thanks for your reply. I am not qiet clear on somethings hence my question is 2 tiers:

1. If i get you right, you suggest placing the 336x280 at both the beginning and end? And also placing d same 336x280 in content?

2. How have your experience with amp been? Any simple way to implement it and does it make use of special ads placement?

Thanks for your reply once again.. Today alone, I have had 520 visitors and only earned $0.82 usd. Depressing.

Hey there!

1. 336x280 in the article and using response ads for top/bottom. That's what I'm using and it seems to work. You can swap out a responsive one at the top for a linkunit instead.

2. AMP has been great for me. Ads are easy to implement (I do it through my functions.php file) and I use a similar behaviour for when to place them. Read more here https://isabelcastillo.com/google-adsense-wordpress-amp

Today I had 1100 visitors and $18,3 USD in comparison. You should definitely get more (unless it's a low-paying niche).

Thanks man. Implemented the ad recommendations and it seems to be working atm. Thanks. Goodluck on your journey. You deserve it.

Considering your results this is no longer an "adsense journey" since it only makes up 10% of your results. The only thing I learned about here about adsense is that it is shit for monetization and better to use affiliate programs anyway.

Not blaming you for that, but it's just how the journey went and maybe time to close it because it digressed beyond relevance of your original post. You can open another thread with a more relevant title and simply reference to this one in your intro.
