I currently have a few keywords that I'm ranking for on the first page of Google. The keywords are generating a decent amount of impressions with a few clicks.

The posts targeting these keywords are only around 150 words in length. Now what do you think would happen if I added additional content to these posts?

In your experience does adding additional content improve or decrease rankings?

Content refresh is good. Just don't modify existing content. Keep top up with more informational values.

Adding more content is generally good. But suppose you add spun content there, it may hamper the already existing rank.

Yes, I also do the same. I add / edit my articles periodically. I add more content like PAA and more keyphrases to the article and keep the number of keywords under control according to the length of the article. I add images and share them on Pinterest so that traffic comes back to the site. Adding a video by embedding it from You Tube or even make one yourself and embed it will also help.

So to answer your question, yes, adding more useful content without touching the original ranking text will always help.

150 words is too little content to begin with, so I would definitely add more. The more content you have that's relevant to the main topic the more long tail keywords you can sneak in and, thus, the more rankings and traffic you'll get

I agree 150 is way to little content. Definitely add more at least 300 words minimum for your content to start to rank better.

I'm going to start by adding an additional 350 words. That will bump it up to a 500 word post. Hopefully that increases the ranking for the keyword. All the other sites ranking for the same keyword have less than 100 words for the post.

oh, I didn't know that your competition ranks with less content. In that case you're good :)

Ofcourse you can add quality content to your existing one.
It can be of updating content with some more ideas
