Acquiring SEO/DM Clients - Best Practices?

With respect, with a master degree in marketing and a degree in business management, you can't take the risk of spending money on hosting and domain? FYI, hosting can be shared with multiple domains, and domains can be purchased with coupons at $1 per year (first year)? So we are talking about very very minimal initial investment here... so whats the matter?

I had thought "another domain, another thing to focus no" but yea, i suppose you're right. I should just go for it and buy it.

Ok so i'll purchase the hosting and domain.

What next? My problem stems from i have no clients, i only have clients from companies ive worked on in the past. Ill spin it as if they were my clients, but as i have 0 clients of my own, how do i go about getting clients?

Do you have results?

If you have results you can use this as a portfolio like an artist. You have to do some research on the value of internet marketing with some general numbers and even some real case studies. Remember all it takes for a business owner the hear is that you bring in more profit than you cost you should land some clients.

The hard part is convincing some people who dont believe to much in online marketing yet, it is funny in this day and age people are still resistant.

im gonna dick you abit here.

a master's in marketing? What was your thesis about?

Pricing strategy, Brand awareness, database marketing, swot analysis.. i took those classes in my undergrad and I can still BS like an agency.

seriously, a masters in marketing and a business mgmt degree.. im expecting better quality questions than domain and hosting pricing.

It was the effect of user experience optimisation upon conversion rate. I a/b tested a landing page (on a client i was working on at the time) to test how the different features would effect the user experience and conversion.

Yes, i suppose its just a cop out from me saying i don't want to get another lot of hosting, so quite bad from me on that score(lazy)

I do have results for the clients I worked on, i actually have them on my free site as mini case studies.

I suppose my main set back was the disappointing round of cold calls (a combination of bad data and people just not wanting the service).

I am fairly young also, so in my mind I think business owners wouldn't pay attention to a youngster spouting out all of this digital marketing talk. This is my own problem, I suppose if i was more confident in this area, I would just make a list of local companies, and actually show up at their business as opposed to phone call.

Any thoughts on that route, or is there something better i could do?

see this ?

http://www.ultrabrand.ca/

thats how its done. i saw his instagram, its money.. so i assume that he is hustling people with shit that they need. (or his parents have money, instragram falsies)

p.s. multivariate testing is needed in analytics and performance marketing, if you cant sell the fact that they might make m money with media buys, then giving you client wouldnt help you either

Im confident I could, its just my first contact list was bad contacts, as i said many were closing down, many of the details were not correct.

My question is how i should initially go about attracting prospects. Cold calling, showing up at local businesses.

Im asking advice from people who are more experienced.

I have a masters and degree which will help add some credibility to my pitch, but just because i have a degree im not coming onto this forum saying "i have a degree, i know exactly what im doing" because i don't. My downfall is a lack of experience so im looking for advice. Yes you are "dicking me" as you say. Being more dicky than helpful imo, although the link you posted is a very good example site.

What you said about just going for it and paying the hostnig and domain is a fair and valid point also, so thanks for that.

Try Elance, and don't quit. There are tons of offers there (please don't answer with "but Indians and Pakis are low balling")

This is spot on advise. While I was expecting a snarky remark that would make me chuckle as usual, I was glad to see a truly helpful post. Skyrocket, right on man!

Elance sucks major balls at first, but if you persevere it will pay off.

Yeppers, some people don't understand this but that's good, less competition

Thanks i'd never heard of it. Looked on the site, and it seems similar to people per hour. Is that correct?

Will definitely give this ago. Thank you.

One way to help your confidence issue...know you're going to bring them more clients = more money. Just know that simple fact, believe it.

Now you're no longer being offered something, it's you offering them something. It works.

Thanks, great attitude to have.

I always mix up freelancer and elance. I think they are pretty similar correct? But I seem to heard good things about elance but not freelancer?
