A Simple Quest for $35 / Day

I must admit I've always been more of a lurker than a contributor on forums but I hope with Black Hat World that's about to change. With reference to huge sums of money regularly being thrown around this place then you might snigger at my quest to make just $35 / day. Essentially though that's all I need right now but don't worry. If I manage to achieve my goal then I will scale and scale!


Background Info

I'm obsessed with internet marketing right now to the point it's pretty much taking over my life. It's undoubtedly a needs must at the moment because I have no other income. For the record I live out in Thailand where the cost of living doesn't command a ridiculous wage. I originally came out here to teach English but quickly realised that the monetary reward for the effort was never going to give me the lifestyle I wanted.

I don't really remember how it happened but I fell onto some Affilorama webinars and my interest in affiliate marketing sparked. I've then been absorbing every piece of information I can lay my hands on and ended up subscribing to Wealthy Affiliate for a bit which I think it actually a great resource for beginners. For me though off the back of weeks of endless research I didn't think there was enough new with it to maintain a subscription.

In the last week or so I checked out ViperChill's product Backlinks XXX. It was the first time I had really learnt properly about tiered link building and it all made a lot of sense. I guess after viewing that I've slowly began to be drawn away from the fluffy white clouds of Wealthy Affiliate style marketing to the dark side.

I've been running a few sites for a while now since I started in this game a couple of months back and am slowly padding them out with content. Juggling numerous projects, trying to do the SEO, writing and researching is incredibly hard though. Sometimes I feel like I'm just smashing my head repeatedly on a brick wall.


Sites

• I already run a travel blog I enjoy adding to from time to time. It's been generally well received but the difficulty is finding new content for it whilst I remain stationary in one spot. I see it as a slow burner. If I keep adding to it every week or so for a few years then I will have amassed enough content on it that I can perhaps start making some decent money from it.
• There's a gambling site that I'm hoping to build in to some kind of authority for Clickbank products in the niche. It's resulted in about $100 of sales for me over a few months and ranks Page 2 for most keywords I'm targeting. There's one I find myself on page 2 for at the moment which is a biggie and I'm currently building out link tiers to try and target it.
• I have a web development / seo blog which I kind of update with new things I discover. I originally designed it to promote Wealthy Affiliate but I think I need to be a bit more cutting edge with it.
• I've set up a site for health and fitness stuff with which my main intention was going after some Amazon commissions with. It's currently pretty dormant as I can't bring myself to write endless reviews.

Mini Project

I want to get on board with the success I see people have with Youtube. One of my videos for my other site ranks really well on Google search without any link building and just a push of a few thousands views. I commissioned a great little video that's now up online and targeting the dating game with a domain that refers to a Clickbank product.

Now I've realised I've no real idea how I should go about ranking it. The keyword is busy but not super competitive. It's definitely possible to get some action on it I'm sure.


So as you can see I'm suffering a bit from information overload the moment. Hopefully this post will help me prioritise and be more focussed. If you're still with me then thanks for reading and I would warmly welcome any encouragement and suggestions!

Good luck with everything, sounds like you have a good plan of action to implement so I expect you will have success.

With your travel blog, is it Thailand focussed? And where about in Thailand are you based?

It's not Thailand focussed but it kinda feel that it should be sometimes since I'm pretty static. I've actually come up with an idea lately which might change its general premise quite significantly but am yet to implement anything as of yet whilst I concentrate on other things.


ClickBank generated a $29 sale today on my gambling site which was nice. I've had a bit more luck with this as of late with sales every few days but then I could face a month drought. It's not consistent like I need it to be but I'm only getting about 10-20 unique visits to my page daily so conversion wise it's not bad at all.

For the same site I've noticed a one place drop in the SERPs today and don't know if that's a sign of things to come. I recently paid for a PR5 contextual blog link and wanted to see the outcome of such a link to my site. MajesticSEO is finally picking that up today but the site has been suspended by its host when I clicked through to see my link. I'm starting to think BAD IDEA and have had it removed in any case. May have been a bit silly there.

I've made a couple of SEO related purchases over the last few days:

• ScrapeBox
  I've heard many great things about it being a really useful tool and for the knock down price at BHW it was worth a punt. I must say I absolutely love the look and feel of it. It's really pleasant to use. I haven't used it excessively but it has been useful in scraping some image URLs and alternate image text keywords for some spinning I've been doing.
• 10 Proxies from BuyProxies
  So on getting ScrapeBox I realised I'd need some proxies so invested in 30 days use of 10 proxies from BuyProxies. Absolutely no complaints so far. I had my list of IPs in a few hours and they all report to be fast. I have little to compare them with but at the moment would highly recommend.
• Chimp ReWriter
  I can across this a while ago, tested it out and then requested a refund? Why? Because I couldn't see a use for the output. Spun articles didn't really fit into the teaching practices I've encountered so far but tiered link building is going to be my next attempted conquest and I need lots of unique content to play with. I've given Chimp another shot. People seem to naturally recommend The Best Spinner but I really fail to see how anything could be better than this. The thesaurus is immense and the method of building variations with all the keyboard shortcuts perfect.

I've gotta admit spinning has taken absolutely forever. I've been followed the superb Matthew Woodward tutorials and his guide is brilliant. Sentence, phrase and word spinning a 800 word document with unique images, alt tags and anchor text has left me wanting to kill myself.

Seriously - it must have taken about 6-8 hours in total and I'm surprised actually the uniqueness isn't higher. Currently I it sits on 60-70%. For the amount of work I put in I was expecting 80-90%! I'm not sure what I've done wrong there.

Aside from all this today I've also learn about YouLikeHits an have automated points building to run in the background whilst I work on other things. I'm currently drip feeding likes and views onto my ClickBank targeted promo video I've had made and will see how I get on!

Tomorrow I've gonna focus on writing some content for my blogs because I've totally neglected it whilst investigating tiered link building. I'd also like to finally nail down the spun article and prepare it for launch... Somewhere.. I haven't quite figured out my plan of attack with it yet. Ultimate Demon and GSA are turning my head a little bit. I'm going to need something right to automate stuff and I'm not sure ScrapeBox is the ticket..

The reason I asked was exactly what you said - it would make sense to focus it on Thailand.

Getting content could be very easy. You presumably meet a lot of travellers so perhaps you could find a way of getting them to contribute. Living there (depending where you are) you could also speak to local tourist-focussed businesses and get some discounts arranged - that would make the site more attractive. You could even offer the tourists you meet the discounts in return for an article for the site and sell the businesses advertising slots.

Yeah it's an interesting point. I guess as of late I've seen my travel stuff as pretty low priority because I'm not sure it has potential to earn quickly and that is essentially what I need right now.

I really do think what I'm thinking could drive some serious traffic - especially local traffic. But I need to get the camera out and implement it. Just seems like there's too little time in the day at the moment!

You're totally right with the discount stuff. I guess my biggest fall back on that at the moment is there's such a small funnel of people visiting every day it doesn't feel like it would be worth anyones while.

So it's been a wee while and due an update on this:

I decided to try and build a backlink profile since I'm just really experimenting with the tiered system and it will give me a better indication of what's working and what has knock on effects. To my main money site I've now built up about 9 Web 2.0 properties. I'm actually really familiar with the content for the keyword I'm targeting so for these I wrote a unique article on each. Took me about 15 minutes per site spread out over 4 or 5 days.

I figured I cared less about article directories and PDF submission sites having spun content so decided to spin a few documents for submission there. Actually surprised how easy that process was. Each document contains one link to my money site and one link to a Web 2.0, sometimes with a big authority site thrown in for good measure.

Once I've created a few more Tier 1 and Tier 2 links I guess it's a case of unleashing linking hell on them. I'm not sure of the best way to go about this yet if I don't have access to a tool other than Scrapebox. Any suggestions?

Since my dating video didn't seem to be getting me a lot of action I decided to revert from my original plan of doing a simple domain based redirect and actually turn my domain into a mini-but-could-turn-out-to-be authority site. The resulting site a day or two later is actually pretty slick. I have noticed though that there seem to be a couple of big players targeting the same niche who look to be using SAPE links (hidden from page inserted links and anchor text) so I'm not sure how much of a chance I stand with getting where I need to be.

If anybody is in the need for an easy way to create Optin Forms, Squeezes and what not by the way then look no further than Hybrid Connect. It's awesome! I originally went with OptIn Skin but it took me all of a few hours before I decided it was unusable.


Things I need to fix:

My travel blog is not being updated regularly enough. The problem is that I guess I'm quite proud of any content I put up here and it takes hours for me to write a 'thinkpiece' style article.. Even more so when I've been sitting in my shorts all day figuring out my next SEO plan of attack for other projects! I really need to pull my finger out and start with my new content theme idea here.

I should be updating my web development blog with all the stuff I'm sharing here now rather than letting it sit idle. I'd love to do some video tutorials based on my own findings but the daytimes when I have time to record are destroyed by building works commencing either side of me at the moment. The volume levels are crazy some times.
