A quick question, guys! Please help me out. Charging fee dilemma

Here's my case. Someone is interested in hiring my services as a writer.

Will charge me $5 per 1500-word article/how-to guide.

Is this reasonably priced? Although I am still starting to be a freelance writer, I do have ample experience in content writing in the corporate setting. 4 years.

Will I accept it or not? How am I going to negotiate this?

$5 per 1500 words?

That is a very low pay rate and unless you really need the money bad I can not see working for that.


Think about how long it is going to take you to write an article that long. At minimum with research you are probably looking at 3 hours and probably more and that works out to $1.33 an hour and that is starvation wages.

I presented my standard charge for a 1500-word content, which I considered fair since I'm just starting out as a freelance writer. Do you know what the recruiter said?

"It's expensive." Seriously?!

This recruiter assumes writing is just peanuts so it is alright to pay in "peanuts."

I foresee that this will be a problematic client. I just politely replied back: "I understand. Thanks."

End of discussion.
