A new google update today targetting money keywords

It's hard to say as in my opinion few updates were rolling since May 23rd. It started with Penguin 2.0 and seems like now a Panda started to roll out few days ago (according to Matt Cutts in the SMX conference).

All in all, links still play a significant role in ranking. Diversify your anchor text, don't blast, use a significant portion of branded anchor, avoid getting links from low quality sites. With that said, make sure your site is decent in the content area and also visually. Also don't link to bad sites as well from your own site.

Working for a client in such a niche. All brand-related keywords went up!! Literally every other keyword dropped out of the hundred range. This is a nightmare.

Funny thing is, for this client, we were actually working 100% whitehat, and most of the results that are up are pure pure blackhat GSA Search Engine Ranker type spam.

Majorly competitive keyword is showing multiple one-page static affiliate sites IN THE FIRST PAGE.

Well done to Matt Cunts and the Google web-spam team.
 
Anyone trying 301 redirect to new site to get around this? Might it work?

From what I know you could infact do a 301 and rank and bank for a few days, but then you would get punched out of serps again again.
 
I wonder if they target blogspot seeing it belongs to them?
 
Lost rankings for my root URL. It was ranking for 100+ keywords, now all 100 are position 100-200+. All its inner URLs and keywords are ranking though. No S@PE links were used. Just some good Web 2.0, Bookmarks, and Blog links.
 
My payday loan niche is no where now, it got hit by this update :( searching how to get recover
 
Should I get a message in my GWT if I was hit by this update ? Some of my rankings seems to have dropped 200 positions, some of them are the same or the usual dance .
 
I think what we need to re-affirm is that Google is just an algorithm and it will always have holes.

If Google devalues a method, it only strengthens other methods.

If Google creates a new penalizing algo, it only leaves room for this algo to be circumvented and avoided.

While links are the power of rankings in Google there will always be linkbuilding.
 
**UPDATE***

One of my sites that was hit has now come back to #1 for a major keyword that it was penalized for with this update. I am hoping its not just a weird temporary reversal.

The site was #1 for 6 keywords but immediately after this update it got hit for the 2 biggest traffic keywords. They were not in top 100. THen yesterday one of the keywords dropped in at #99 and just now it came back to #1!

The other keyword is still not in top 100.

My second site (which has more backlinks but lower quality) is still nowhere for the 2 big traffic KW.

I will update if rankings drop again.
 
I wanted to personally thank you for keeping us updated ! It's really valuable to all the members to know that a "recovery" is possible.
hopefully it will stick there in the first place for a long time.
 
@weBay Can you please share what was your link types and anchor distribution (percentages) for the page that got hit? Also, please mention if you have done anything after you got hit. Thanks
 
NEW UPDATE

The site which had one KW recover has just had the 2nd KW recover too! The other site is still penalised for both KW.

Just away from home for 2 days but Ill do some research into my links and post it here on Saturday.

Seems my rankings are really all over the place at the moment. Going from position 1 to not in top 100 and back again.

Not sure what to make of it.

It is happening to new money keywords also now and not just the original 2 keywords.

have those sites been the sotes you used the owl service on?
 
One site now back page one for all keywords and the other site has been wiped off the face of the earth except for tiny amounts of long tail.

Expecting things to change again rapidly so not celebrating the first site coming back quite yet.
 
I would prefer if matt cutts tweeted about his bowel movements, it would really be more beneficial
 
I have the same problem. One of my sites went away in the first day.But it appeared on the #1 the second day. It stayed about 10 days and now it disappeared. Do not know what happened.
